Just insert your phone at a convenient moment (with or without the bumper on) and it will automatically backup your contacts and camera roll photos and recharge your phone battery at the same time. A progress bar lets you know when your backup is complete. It's made for Apple iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, and iPod touch (4th generation) so you know it will work seamlessly. If your iPhone is lost or stolen, you can easily restore your contacts and photos from the SD card (4GB capacity) included in the Iomega SuperHero and put them on your new iPhone. The product sounds great on paper! This is one of those that they leave out many specifics just so the things they do say sound like there are no disadvantages.

1) The iomega website says in their product tour that this backs up photos, videos, and contacts. I can assure you and support rep agreed this does not back up videos that you took with your iphone on your camera roll. It only backs up photos, and contacts. My videos are as important, maybe more important than my photos at times. This product doesn't think so, and they're not clear about it.

2) The backup is almost as slow as a dial-up modem. The transfer from the camera roll to the SD card is 7KB/s. YES SEVEN KILOBYTES PER SECOND. Just look at your camera roll, minus the videos, and average 1.5MB per 5MP photo, calculate about 3.5minutes per photo, then see how long your backup would take. Mine is roughly 65 hours... HAHAHAHAHA 65HOURS??? RU SERIOUS!

3) If you have a lot of photos, this one is a doosey as well: When you RESTORE to a new iphone you MUST restore the ENTIRE album in one sitting. Meaning if you have a lot of photos (which is why you're backing up in the first place) you must leave your phone there (in my case) for 65 hours straight while it restores... Yes, restore is as slow as backup, but you don't have the luxury of doing it only at night while you sleep. You'd better turn your phone on airplane mode or else a phone call will destroy your hard work!

4) Once you've purchased their product, tried to use it, realized it backs up as slowly as you used to connect online over your dial-up modem and now want to return the device, guess what, you have no way of erasing the SD card. Some might not care, other may have previously purchased an SD card reader, but this product doesn't come with one and there is no way in the iOS software to erase a backup. You are now forced to find a friend with a reader or return your device to some unknown shady characters who will sort through your contacts prank calling your mother, and posting your camera roll (minus videos) to 4chan!

This product is going right back to iomega. For the price and the lack of abilities, misleadings on their site, and terrible performance I hereby give this product a SINGLE STAR RATING!

Excellent product! The stand holds my iPhone 4 with the bumper installed. You get a 4Gig card with it.
Only backs up Contacts and photos. Contact backup is fast. Photo backup the first time is painfully slow, so delete any unnecessary photos before backup. You have to have location services ON in order to backup photos (not a fan of location services on).

The stand looks and feels like it can handle case larger than the bumper, when installed on the phone. The charge connection from the bottom of the stand is nice and long into the iPhone (some other charging stands charge connections were too short when a case was installed - even once I modified them to accommodate the case on the phone).

Not this one. I FINALLY have a charger that holds my bumper installed iPhone 4!!!

Just wish it backed up my calender.

Edit: Also, It fits my older iPhone 3GS with the leather case mate case installed.

The information used to sell this product so throughly misrepresented it. I am reviewing this product because any future or potential buyers need to know this.

I bought it because it seemed to be the perfect backup for my phone as I have had several incidents where a back-up was needed. However it was so slow, that it took two nights before I actually got everything backed up.

Here's a kicker, it doesn't even have enough programming sense to know what photos and contacts it has already backed up, so it backs up EVERYTHING AGAIN! Everytime. NOT happy with this item at all. It took several days of trying just to get the thing to connect a second time. I finally got it to recognize a signal and started the slow process, again, so I would be able to transfer my phone information to another phone.

Now, I can't even get the thing to connect to my IPhone. I upgraded to a '4' and was able to restore my info into it (a process that took just as long) but I can't back up any new pictures or contacts now because it keeps saying it is not connected. I spent over 60 dollars that was wasted and I am now trying to stick everything into ITunes again because my superhero just flubbed.

I am truly disheartened by this productIomega SuperHero Backup and Charger for iPhone (Americas). Worse purchase I have ever made from Amazon. Totally regret it! How do I get my money back and who do I complain to?

If you read reviews to determine if you want to make a purchase, please consider this one. The thing is not worth the money! Wait until they drop another $20 or $30 dollars off the price. You'll be glad you did. Don't set yourself up for buyer's remorse like I did.
