5.0 out of 5 stars Great budget trigger cymbal
I bought this cymbal to replace an existing cymbal for my Ion Drum Rocker and it works great. It's much quieter than the regular Ion DR cymbal, as well as being more sensitive, and much tougher (from a build-quality standpoint)...and much less prone to crosstalk.

There's no clamp included, but if you already have all three cymbals for the Ion and just want...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good cymbal for crash
I purchased this cymbal to use on my Ion IED12 Pro Session Drums set that I bought from Costco. It works great for crash cymbal compared to the two cymbals that came with the set. It comes with the 3.5mm (Mini) female which needs to be converted to 1/4-inch one. The space underneath the cymbal doesn't fit the Mini-to-1/4 connector and the male 1/4 from the controller...

Therefore, I've to buy the Mini cable extension to avoid the limited space. Overall, it works perfectly with the unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works pretty good... not super sensitive or anything..., December 27, 2010

I got this for my ION IED12 PRO SESSION Electronic Drum Set and it works well. Not extremely sensitive and isn't really good for melow and light cymbal work, but it works just fine as a crash or a splash... as long and you whack the trigger... very light tapping doesn't really pick up at all, medium tapping can be registered well enough and of course hard tapping works well to. I seen the other guys post that reviewed about this for his IED12 Pro Session kit also give this product 3 stars as well. Probably because of the sensitivity and the 3.5mm input this cymbal trigger had on the underside that you will need one of these Planet Waves - Audio adapter - mini-phone mono 3.5 mm (M) - phone stereo 6.3 mm (F) to connect this trigger with a 1/4" plug.

I bought as couple of these for my ION, they're not so sensitive so I have to beat them a little hard in order to make'em work. The top screw seems to losen up a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars ....givin' the drummers some..., June 22, 2011

Hey, drummers!

Got 3 of these Ion cymbals for my little Ion kit, and they work like a charm. If you have one of the older electronic sets Ion makes, don't delay this purchase, because once they're gone, you'll be sorry you missed out on a great feature to get that real drummr feel. I even used the extra pads as a third tom, and another snare.

Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great budget trigger cymbal, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Ion Cymbal for IED01 and IED04 (Electronics)
I bought this cymbal to replace an existing cymbal for my Ion Drum Rocker and it works great. It's much quieter than the regular Ion DR cymbal, as well as being more sensitive, and much tougher (from a build-quality standpoint)...and much less prone to crosstalk.

There's no clamp included, but if you already have all three cymbals for the Ion and just want to replace one, this is perfect. The included boom arm slides right into the existing cymbal clamp on your frame (but you do need to use the included boom arm since it's specially made for this cymbal). A sufficiently long 1/8" to 1/4" cable was included, so it was completely plug & play.

A great feature of this cymbal is that it has a special mounting with a spring inside, so that if you smack it hard, it "gives" with your stick, then snaps back. This is like having a built in Aquarian spring, and those cost $12! Perfect for crash. If you're like me and want to use it as a hihat, you just tighten the wingnut on top, which compresses the spring and makes the cymbal rigid.

The only minor drawback is that it misses very fast hihat rolls if you're hitting the very edge of the cymbal. The reason is, while the entire cymbal is covered in rubber, the metal housing underneath (where the sensor is) doesn't extend to the very edge of the rubber. This is a minor annoyance that is completely negated by playing a centimeter closer to the center. The edge issue could probably be completely solved by doing a simple mod, like sticking a piece of popsicle stick under the rubber lip (under the bottom edge of the cymbal), in order to transfer the vibrations from the edge to the sensor. I tried it with a penny, but never spent much time trying to perfect it, cos it really doesn't bother me enough to bother.

A great cymbal that probably rivals the Pintech Trigger Cymbal in quality, except it comes with its own mounting hardware and cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars What it's for and what it is., September 29, 2010

This review is from: Ion Cymbal for IED01 and IED04 (Electronics)
This cymbal is tagged as specifically for either A: Ion Audio iED01 5-Piece MIDI Electronic Drum Kit or B: Ion Audio iED04 Desktop Electronic Drum Pad. What does it come with? It doesn't say. What are the connectors etc. Well, the ION site has this to say about it. It's a cymbal expansion kit for the IED01 "Add lifelike cymbal feel to your electronic drum kit. Sold individually with all mounting hardware included. (Not compatible with the DRUM ROCKER)"

So it's a drum cymbal. It should work with any electronic kit that recognizes the piezo signals out of it, whatever those are. The issues of mounting and wiring are another issue, one that might be fixed or worked around, or maybe not. So if you don't have something compatible, buyer beware. Just like if you were getting the Ion IDP01 Drum Pad Extension Kit or a Pintech Trigger Cymbal for some electronic set or another.

After reading four reviews on the product, it amazes me that ratings were awarded at all!! Three of the other reviews stated that they purchased the product to use on a DIFFERENT drum set .... the "Rocker". Perhaps the listing has changed, but the one I am looking at is clearly marked as to the proper models that it should be used with.
The other reviewer never received the product, so I don't really know which set he or she has. Since none of the above had actually reviewed the product under proper circumstances, I felt it misleading to have them leave an overall rating of two stars.

Now, here I am. I ordered the proper unit and await delivery. Have I received it yet? Have I tried it out? Of course not! That does not appear to be a requirement when posting reviews. 5 stars!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Ion Drum Rocker expansion cymbal, June 6, 2009
By
This review is from: Ion Cymbal for IED01 and IED04 (Electronics)
I got this cymbal thinking it was the Ion Drum Rocker cymbal expansion. It's really my own fault as I should have researched it more before ordering. The vague and similar description didn't help though. I guess this thing may work as intended on the kit it's made for, but it definately will not work on the Drum Rocker. If that's what you're looking for, look for the cymbal's product number IED07C.

1.0 out of 5 stars Call Before Ordering From AMS, April 23, 2009
This review is from: Ion Cymbal for IED01 and IED04 (Electronics)
Ordered item in March. Was told it is on back order but they would get more and ship out on Apr 10. Amazon sent email on Apr 20th saying the vender had not yet shipped it and I could contact American Musical Supply directly for a status. I finally called on Apr 23 and during the call with their customer support about the order status, an email arrived saying they cancelled my order because it was out of stock and now they will not have any until May. I suggest calling American Musical Supply BEFORE you place an order with them and ask if they actually have the item. Their phone number is 1-800-458-4076 ext 6390. Otherwise you may end up waiting and waiting on an order that is never going to show up since A.M.S. might keep pushing their expected-in-stock date further back each month.

It uses a mini-jack and does not mount on the ION drum rocker frame. This is NOT the correct cymbol for the ION drum rocker.
