This review is from: The Iowa Road Guide to Haunted Locations (Paperback)
This is another installment in the haunted "road guide" series. The entries include detailed directions to find the site and investigate for yourself. I enjoy reading the details on what's been reported, the section on the background history, and the results of the authors' on-site investigations. I also like that there are photos of each site. Some of the sites are definitely quite interesting, like the various blue and black angels around the state.
One interesting detail that is not included in the book - about the Porter House in Decorah, Iowa - I was at this location recently and the tour guide happened to mention that Grace Porter's wake was held in the ground floor parlor, in the same room where she had been married. However, the tour guide didn't mention anything about hauntings and it was only later, when I arrived home and read this book, that I realized that it was supposed to be a haunted location. When I was a teenager, we used to sit around late at night telling ghost stories, and sometimes we would all pile into the car to drive out into the countryside to sneak a peek at some spooky statue or location at a lonely cemetery. (A favorite was the "Moving Mary" statue in a cemetery near Montevideo, MN.) This book seems like the perfect companion for such adventures. I eagerly await the next installment in the series.

I actually gave this to my Dad as a Christmas present. But since we have similar interests, I decided to give it a read first. I was amazed. Not only did it give these great haunted locations to visit and the directions to get to them, it gave a history of these locations. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the paranormal. It is a great book about said-to-be haunted locations in my home state.

I loved that you could actually find the places mentioned in the book...not vague descriptions like "In a town in northeast Iowa..."
I would recommend adding GPS coordinates for the really hard-to-find places like the rural cemeteries.
