This double album gives fans of Helena even more to love! As I have written to friends, if this music does not get you moving or moved, then likely you are not among the living. A versatile, powerful voice, stirring, clear and beautiful in Greek or English live sets. Why not rate this a five star effort? I only wish that some of the "Euro" versions had been included, especially the Euro Greek version of "Shine" which is "To Fo Stin Psychi" arguably her most heartfelt and powerful single.
That being said, this is a wide ranging and personal tribute to both Helena and to many other artists, that she covers in the concert, such as Madonna's "Like a Prayer" -- if you loved the original, you will likely enjoy this version, too. It is less over-produced or effect driven, less hectic and perhaps more purely a soulful, yet very danceable rendition. Helena makes music that never loses touch with the beauty and artistry of her Greek heritage, often including the textures of bouzouki strings and rhythmic cadences essential for modern dance...and there is the great energy and joyfulness of music that is both timeless, fresh and heartfelt. I would not suggest that Helena explores songs that are "deep" or intellectual -- she is playing to the heart and soul, a bit techno, a bit disco, a very different alternative to American Pop -- but somehow a music that would take most pop fans further and satisfy the World Music Alternative fanatic, too!
