Rik continues to inspire me with his lyrics and amaze me with his guitar-playing. This is softer than most Triumph work, but if you like Hold On, Magic Power and Midsummer Daydream (the sensitive Triumph hits), you'll love this. Out of the Blue gives me chills. Bang On got me through a tough period in my life. I love you Rik!

This is one of the best records ever made. It has everything from really mellow to heavy metal. Every song is a great song. If you ever get the chance to see him live, Don't miss it. If you like good guitar playing don't miss a great record by a great guitarist and singer.

This was a fantastic second solo effort by Rik. He used to be the lead guitarist for the Canadian rock band Triumph.
The songs are diverse, from the hyperactive rock "Straight Up" to the quiet and emotional "Calling St. Cecilia" to the nearly comic blues of "Woke up this Morning". The lyrics are thoughtful (Rik always writes great lyrics) and the music beyond the talent level of almost all of the current, popular musicians we have today.

Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed! I have quite a collection of old Triumph and other recordings featuring this artist, and this is by far my favorite.

Emmett's own description is interesting. "It is a collection of 14 cuts, 12 songs and 2 guitar pieces, all pretty much centered on the theme of the three abiding graces, faith, hope and love, and trying to find my way to them through the spirit of music, songwriting, and the arts and crafts of guitar playing."

The first 7 titles rock and want to be one-hit wonders. Now I want to hear a ballad and we get Out of the Blue, a sure-hit, mellow rock song and Calling St. Cicilia, a mellow ballad; and up to this point this is a nice disc. But then Mr. E puts this jazzy tune in and a funky blues song about some guitarist he adores and the whole arrangement falls to pieces. The last two songs will take you far away from the rock and because of those 2 misfits I can't see any better than 3 stars for this compilation.

If you really want to see all of Rick, this is the best go to. I have greatly enjoyed a lot of Rik Emmett, with Triumph, with Dave Dunlop, and solo. From Straight Up to Lickity Bit to Woke Up This Morning, Ipso Facto lets you see what someone who really understands the guitar in more than one framework can do. There were a couple of tracks that were less than noteworthy, but overall it's a good intro to a great artist.
