master drummer plays zarb solo,
By Heidi M. Hawkins "heidimo" (Bellingham, WA: City of Subdued Excitement) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Iranian Classical Tradition 1 (Audio CD)
Chemirani is considered the greatest living master of the zarb, the only traditional percussion instrument in Iranian music. The zarb is also known by other names, including dumbek. This version of the drum is wood with animal skin head. The recording consists of 4 drum solos by Mr. Chemirani, and one duet with his best student, also on zarb. There are no other instruments, no vocals, no effects, just zarb. If you enjoy solo drumming, don't pass up the opportunity to buy this cd, if you can get it. Chemirani's mastery is obvious, and the tracks are varied. His sensitivity as a drummer is phenomenal. Highly recommended! (Liner notes are provided in English, French, and German.)
