A great mystery by a master storyteller. The Iraqi Provocation moves fast, always keeping the reader engaged. The main character, Eric Berg, is a complex and interestingly flawed university professor who may be misunderstood unless one focuses on the conflicts in his personality. Two female characters shine in the book - a detective who works with Berg, and a secret service agent. The Iraqi Provocation realistically explores human foibles, adding to the fun of the read.

Another compelling, quick-paced mystery featuring the complex college professor/detective Eric Berg. Iraqi Provocation gets going on the first page and keeps the reader engaged. Its timely plot spans the subjects of espionage, counterintelligence, academia, and theology. My fellow mystery fans are in for a treat.

A Book for Our Times March 13, 2003

Format:Paperback
As with his previous foray into the life of Eric Berg in The Labcoat, The Iraqi Provocation is engaging and a pleasure to read from the first page to the last. Soderquist capitalizes on his diverse background to combine the details of life in an academic setting with the secretive world of intelligence gathering, from the unique perspectives of a college campus police force to the secret service, CIA and White House. As a result, you are made to simultaneously feel a part of worlds as diverse as academia and high international intrigue, not a feat many authors today could accomplish. Not prone to filling pages with irrelevant or superfluous details, Soderquist provides just the right amount of details regarding the academic and intelligence worlds to allow you say "I didn't know that" while never breaking your stride in turning the pages. The plot is timely and as relevant as today's headlines, and it gets you thinking--the storyline could in fact occur in this new age in which we live. New to Soderquist, or a continuing fan, you won't be sorry you bought this book.
