2.0 out of 5 stars Too much data, too little detail, May 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ireland '99: The Complete Guide with Dublin Walks, Country Drives, Celtic Sites, Golf, and Sh opping (Fodor's Gold Guides) (Paperback)
Another reader commented that Fodor's had too much stuff in it and not enough depth, and that is my feeling exactly. The first time I went to Ireland I used Fodor's, and was very dissatisfied. True, there was a lot of information, but it was pretty high-level, and didn't go into much detail.

The next time I went, I used a book written by Dan McQuillan and published by Open Road entitled Ireland Guide. I found it to be so much more useful, and it had a wider spread of cost ranges for B&Bs, hotels, and restaurants. The information was much more in-depth. Also, much of it was written in a playful, personal style, which made it fun reading. Wish I'd had it on my first trip.

2.0 out of 5 stars too much info, too little depth, March 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ireland '99: The Complete Guide with Dublin Walks, Country Drives, Celtic Sites, Golf, and Sh opping (Fodor's Gold Guides) (Paperback)
The first guidebook I bought for planning my trip to Ireland, I have found it the least helpful. The best section is on Dublin, but the further afield you wish to travel, the less helpful this guide! The accommodations and dining recommendations were very limited and usually too expensive. There is an abundance of information, but lacks details for planning a trip.
