New Irish Tenors CD Perfect for St. Patrick's Day,
This review is from: Ireland (Audio CD)
The new Irish Tenors CD, entitled succinctly "Ireland" will please their long-time fans, and show prospective new ones why they are the best of the best. When producer Bill Hughes, after witnessing the success of tenors Domingo, Pavarotti, and Carreras, decided the world needed a group of Irish tenors, he was right on the mark. That was over 10 years ago, and the present incarnation of The Irish Tenors consists of Anthony Kearns, one of the "originals", Finbar Wright, and Karl Scully. Each is Irish to his core, and is possessed of a beautiful, classically trained voice. "Ireland" has just been released, and promises to be a big hit. The choice of songs covers raucous songs like "The Irish Rover" and "Whiskey in the Jar," justly famous songs like "Lift the Wings" sung beautifully by Karl Scully, a great version of "Beautiful Dreamer" sung wonderfully by Finbar Wright,"Danny Boy," "Toora Loora Loora," and "Galway Girl" sung by all three men. To me, the most hauntingly beautiful song on the CD is "Knocknashee" written by Brendan Graham, who wrote "Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears." Anthony Kearns sings this with incredible beauty and sweetness of tone. His diction is well nigh perfect, so you can hear the lovely lyrics. Sung with very little orchestration, it brings tears to the eyes, and a pang to the heart. This is a perfect gift for your favorite music loving person. Notice I didn't say "Irish" person. Because you definitely don't have to be Irish to love The Irish Tenors. And I can prove this, because my ancestors didn't come from County Wexford, or County Cork. They came from Ukraine! No matter. This is a beautiful album.

I have been a fan of the Irish Tenors for years, through several personnel changes; and I believe the addition of Karl Scully is perfect. His voice blends with Finbar and Anthony. This CD has several new songs, as well as some from other albums. It is interesting to hear the new arrangements of some old favorites.

The best group composition to date,

This review is from: Ireland (Audio CD)
I, too, have been a fan of The Irish Tenors since the beginning. This is the fourth composition of the group and by far the best blended. I formerly sang in a college group and our director would move us around till he had the perfect blend of voices. We sounded like one person singing 8 parts. This group sounds like one man singing 3 parts. It's incredibly, blissfully beautiful. I hope this is the last change the group has and I hope they go on recording forever.
