Emerald-green land, an oasis at the tip of Europe...with a new brand of excellence served up high on the Irish table: mouthwatering cheeses, seafood, beef, fish, and lamb, as well as soda bread and spice buns that melt in your mouth. With the country's fertile, loamy soil to yield fine produce and herbs; grassy fields to feed dairy cattle; plentitude of animals from rabbits to pheasant to catch and cook; and ocean waters teeming with fish, there's a cornucopia of fresh and wonderful foods to choose from. Not to mention the pubs, with the best ales and most excellent whiskeys in the world. Take a taste of Ireland as you tour through its rivers and lakes, plains and countrysides. It's an unrivaled voyage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Culinary Delights of Ireland; Potatos ? Think again !!, December 19, 2000

This review is from: Ireland: The Taste and the Country (Hardcover)
The first thing that strikes you when thumbing through this wonderful ode to Ireland is the photographs. I can't decide if I was struck more by the elegant, artful culinary delights or the landscapes and beautiful ancestral homes. J.P. Donleavy (forward) and Mike Bunn are insiders in this land of beauty and they share their stories and insights with the reader the way they would if hunkered down in the corner of a Donegal pub over a few pints of Guinness. From Monaghan to Offlay, from Galway Bay to Lough Derg, we are taken on a gastronomical tour that plants the seed for future vacations that we may never actually take, but that we can travel in our minds whenever we want. Mr Bunn covers some of the more well known sights of Ireland, but more interesting are the off the beaten path travels that the author takes us on. I had a wonderful time in Ireland and look forward to trying my hand at some of the recepies. Just one question; now, how am I going to get my hands on some Galway Bay oysters ?
