5.0 out of 5 stars STOP THE PRESS - NEW VERSION NOW AVAILABLE
After four years of searching we want our customers to know that we found a great print of Penny Serenade and re-mastered this DVD.

We believe our two films are now the BEST on the market and are a great buy.

Thank you for your business... Marengo Films.

3.0 out of 5 stars Such a shame
Technically, I am afraid this double-bill is far below par. Images are blurred, sound is muffled and there is actually recurring sounds that seem to belong to another movie, like there was something on the flip side too which simmers through. I love Irene Dunn. I long to see I Remember Mamma and some of her other wonderful films, but this transer to DVD stinks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two AMAZING Cary Grant movies, July 8, 2003
His Girl Friday and Penny Serenade are two GREAT movies. I'll describe both of them for you:

Penny Serenade is an amazingly SAD and DRAMATIC film. I was practically drowning in my own tears at the end, even though I was laughing soooooo hard at the beginning. Grant's performance was Acadamy Award nominated, but he lost the Oscar to the very retarted and annoying Gary Cooper. Irene Dunne is, as always, simply stunning.

His Girl Friday--don't even get me started!! Hailed by several critics to be the greatest comedy ever made, I find this film to be extremely entertaining. Rosalind Russell is excellent as the (VERY) fast-talking, sharp-tongued Hildy Johnson--a woman torn between being a star reporter and having a real life. Cary Grant, playing Walter Burns, only complicates things. The movie does have some serious, dramatic scenes, but is overall a hilarious, wonderful comedy!!

TWO THUMBS WAAAAAAAAAY WAY UP FOR THESE TWO WAAAAAAAAY WAY COOL CARY GRANT, ROSALIND RUSSEL AND IRENE DUNNE MOVIES!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars MY TWO CENTS WORTH SAYS WOW!!, February 28, 2007

For the first cent, MARENGO FILMS' remastered version (forget the earlier reviews) of PENNY SERENADE is now the best copy of this title to be found on the DVD market. And trust me, I've been through them all. The muddy picture and hissing sound of all other competing versions have been eliminated by the careful remastering of MARENGO. Finally, you can now see this wonderful movie with a beautiful picture and clear, crisp sound.

As for the second cent, the remastering of HIS GIRL FRIDAY is also meticulously accomplished. The picture is clean and sharp and the sound is loud and clear. And how can you argue with the price? You get two bonafide classics in wonderful transfers for the same price that you generally pay for just one DVD title.

Bravo to MARENGO for two jobs well done!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Irene Dunne Is Great!, March 14, 2006
This review is from: Irene Dunne Romance Classics (DVD)
Irene Dunne is so underrated, she is a great comic and dramatic actress. I have watched every movie I can get my hands on.
Just the last few years it seems more and more people are discovering Irene Dunne. Love Affair (original Dunne) great! Penny serenade, fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD QUALITY DVD OF TWO GREAT CLASSICS!, July 19, 2000
By
This review is from: Irene Dunne Romance Classics (DVD)
This is, by far, the best quality DVD versions of the films, PENNY SERENADE and LOVE AFFAIR, that I've purchased. Obviously, the producer of this DVD went to the trouble of securing good quality 35mm prints of these great classics to produce this DVD. On both movies, the picture quality is remarkably fine and sharp, and the sound quality is clear for the age of the films. The best part of this double feature DVD is the price--it's a steal. I'm throwing away my (awful) Madacy label DVDs of these films. This new DVD is fabulous.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Copy Around, February 10, 2006

Anita (Salt Lake City, UT USA) - See all my reviews
I puchased the Marengo release of Penny Serenade, and boy was I thrilled. This has to be the cleanest copy of this movie I have ever seen. Granted it is not perfect but it is far superior to any other releases I have viewed. For me "His Girl Friday" was just a welcome extra......Thanks, Anita

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Movies But Especially My Girl Friday., October 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
I really like Cary Grant and this DVD has two of his movies, His Girl Friday and Penny Serenade. They are both good movies but personally I think His Girl Friday is the better of the two and in this one Cary Grant stars as a newspaper editor who does eveything he can to keep his star reporter (Rosalind Russell) who also happens to be his ex-wife from retirement and getting married to an insurance agent played by Ralph Bellamy. The whole cast is wonderful but especially Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. Penny Seranade is good and about a couple with marital problems who want to adopt a child and his costar is Irene Dunne who starred in two screwball comedies with him, My Favorite Wife and The Awful Truth but truth to be told I preferred their screwball comedies to their dramatic movie. Penny Serenade is good but it's a little too melodramatic for my taste!
