Iris folding looks elegant and is easy to do!,
By
This review is from: Iris Folding With Paper (Paperback)
With easy to understand instructions and clear patterns, this little book is all you need to make beautiful spirals of folded papers. Named for the illusion of looking into the iris of one's eye, iris folding is easy and relaxing to do.

iris folding with iris folding paper Maruscha Gaasebeek and Tine Beauveser,

I like the book very much. Have made several items. The problem is, finding the paper to make the items.
I just came back from The Netherlands, because the authors are Dutch. I expected to find the paper in great supplies, everywhere. Not one store could help me, many stores had never heard of iris paper folding. This was a disappointment. I would appreciate it if you could tell me where to purchase the paper. A.Jansen

This book is very small, about the size of a childs Golden Book. there are much better books out on Iris folding. The content is ok but you'd need to enlarge the templates. I sent the book back.

iris folding introduction,

I have enjoyed this book. For the folks who are looking for paper, just use the envelope backing (called security envelopes) with those tiny spots, swirls and checked patterns. This is what people used initially to do iris folding. It is only recently that special papers have been made for this craft.

This is a very good book about Iris Folding. Thye use the European method of using folded strips of paper in their designs, but they can also be done the American way of using unfolded strips which makes the designed images much thinner and easier to mail. Style not withstanding, these are beautiful designs and not that hard. I highly recommend this book.

Where to get the paper,

I was also expecting a pack of paper with this item. However, to answer the other reviewers who are looking for paper: Packs of origami paper or scrapbooking paper from crafts stores work well. Amazon also SELLS books of paper specifically for iris folding, which has some cool designs: Iris Folding Papers (Crafter's Paper Library) Just make sure your paper is not much thicker than a regular piece of printer/copier paper or your design will be too bulky. I personally like to work with colored tissue paper.

No Paper?,

This review is from: Iris Folding With Paper (Paperback)
From the title, preface, and description on the back of the book it sounds like this book was supposed to be packaged with papers. (From the preface: In the last year, we have often been asked for more attractive paper. We have now found this paper, and this book, Iris Folding with Papers, shows you what you can do with it using both existing and new patterns.")
I am new to paper folding, and was quite disappointed not to get at least a starter pack of paper. So, now where do we get "this" paper? I love the patterns, I am just disappointed that I now have to dig up paper before I begin. . . |
