A solution for Macs? Not quite all there.,
This review is from: Iris USOA393 IRISCard Pro 4 Business Card Scanner (Electronics)
A Mac friendly business card scanner would seem like a no-brainer. The object is to load contact information directly into the address book. OCR recognition must be good or what is the point?
So this scanner has very good OCR capabilities and some neat features-like it is a fully functional 400dpi image scanner for all those vacation prints you have around. It installs easily and is portable enough to carry around in your laptop case. So what's not to like? The interface is a bit clunky and counter-intuitive. To save to your address book you must first add it as an application (it should be the default application for the Mac version) and hit the send button or else it is lost forever. As to images I am still not sure where they get saved-perhaps iPhoto or the Library needs to be added. Since the image scan is not why I bought this scanner, it is not that important to me right now. Additionally it has a multiple card scan feature that I have yet to figure out. The documentation is only fair, so experimentation is the order of the day. IRIS needs to do something about this. Also the feeder will mis-feed if you aren't careful. Not a big deal, you just hit continue, delete the card and re-feed.

Heard mixed results regarding these but purchased this with a laptop for my new business. Stellar early delivery from amazon, nice work amazon! This card scanner works great and I even run photos through it. Does what is says, that's a rarity these days! It even works good on my wife's macpro notebook which is why we purchased this brand seeing there was no others with WIN-MAC compatibility that we could find. I would recommend.

I ordered this as one of the few Apple-compatible business card scanners. I ended up returning it due to the awful software (Both Apple OSX 10.4 Tiger and 10.5 Leopard, for which a patch is needed). While the OCR worked fine, the application quits so often that I was never able to scan more than 8 cards at a time and continually lost the data. Also, the software does not create it's own database or file, so you have to immediately export to VCF/Outlook/Address formats. Very disappointing product!

Though instructions are given for Windows XP installation, they only lead to frustration. I was almost ready to send the product back, but decided to try installation with Windows 7. Installation was quick and easy. No problems, and now everything works as promised.

Defective, poor support for Vista,
By The Gadget Freak "Jim" (Berkeley, CA) - See all my reviews

Their tech support is ignorant to Vista and the product driver is not Vista certified even though it's written with Vista all over product package. Well, here's the bottom line, their software doesn't work with Vista. Their support people only have access to a Mac. I spent 1+ hour trying to troubleshoot what's going on yet the rep didn't know what he was talking about as he didn't have a PC in front of him. They asked me to install a 80mb "patch" to update CD that came with the software yet still failed. This product is going back to Amazon.

The product is not as user friendly as advertised. The cards are not scanned 'squarely' and the button for streightening them out just cuts part of it off - Often with portions of names or numbers. The 'reader' does not recognize a lot of the text, so you do spend considerable time cutting and pasting, or just typing. The image scanner is good, but that image is not exported along with the data in an Excel format. The 'reader' recognizes nothing on black or dark cards. You can scan both front and back - but not at the same time, and the text on the back is not 'recognizable' as a data field.

While not real intuitive to use, the Iris Card scanner worked as advertised. It saved me considerable time getting a large number of business cards entered into our contact management system. For the price I guess I'd recommend it, but be prepared to spend some time figuring out the poorly designed interface.

IrisCard Pro 4 is made for businessmen. If you think that organize business cards and find a contact isn't something easy and now and then waste your time looking for the phone number of someone your really needed to talk for sure it is for you. Fast and easy. The big issue is syncronize contacts with Lotus Notes or Outlook and transfer ALL my contacts to my smartphone with a couple of clicks. To be perfect IrisCard Pro 4 just need a function: export contacts to flash drive and I hope the next update from I.R.I.S. bring it for us.Iris USOA393 IRISCard Pro 4 Business Card Scanner

Do not waste your money!,
This review is from: Iris USOA393 IRISCard Pro 4 Business Card Scanner (Electronics)
I had always wanted to try this scanner to organize my collection of business cards. So I bought it and never liked it. It does not work. I scanned over 50 cards so far and had to literally correct or type addresses and phone numbers, etc. Especially, it never captured the company names correctly at all. Only thing that I liked was the software but you can get similar software elsewhere for far much less. Therefore, please do not waste your money on this device. I think that this scanner is worth probably $25 or less.

Incompatible with Mac; Zero customer service,
This review is from: Iris USOA393 IRISCard Pro 4 Business Card Scanner (Electronics)
If you use a Mac, and if you expect a company to support the products they sell, do not purchase a business card scanner manufactured by IRIS.
The included software would not work on any of my 3 Macintosh computers. Downloads of the (supposed) latest drivers from the IRIS site also failed. Repeated requests for contact / support via IRIS's support form were all ignored. A phone call to their supposed USA offices (in Florida), discovered on their separate corporate website, was also ignored. This company and this product both earn 1-star, or less, in all areas, especially basic courtesy. Based on my experience, my advice to is to avoid IRIS and avoid purchasing their card scanners. |
