Editorial Reviews

Review

Indispensable for every student in the field. -- Times Literary Supplement

This is an unfrightening book, and while no doubt ideal as a 'primer' for academics approaching the subject, also a useful conspectus for the interested layman who means to go no further. -- Books Ireland

This seminnal book is an important introduction to discussions about the diaspora because of its cautionary approach to the subject and its unbiased representation of every facet of it. -- Irish University Review --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Irish Flights of Fancy, July 28, 2006
Akenson strives to refute Kerby Miller's thesis that emigrating Irish saw themselves as exiles. He does so by examining emigrants' experiences in Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand besides the U.S.A.
