5.0 out of 5 stars Family Coats of Arms and Home Counties, March 10, 2006

This review is from: Irish Family Names Map (Collins British Isles and Ireland Maps) (Paperback)
Our Irish heritage group searched high and low for this item for years and years. The single mounted copy that we had was a source of endless fascination for members and for visitors when we set up at the local highland games and other festivals. It is also a good, basic map of Ireland and its counties. We bought two.
Note to the Scottish: Collins publishes a similar map for Scotland with clan crests instead of coats of arms. A must buy for any convener or clan commissioner.

4.0 out of 5 stars An attractive map which looks good mounted on a wall, January 26, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Irish Family Names Map (Collins British Isles and Ireland Maps) (Paperback)
This is an attractive map to look at, although it has to be fully unfolded to use. There is a central map of Ireland with all the family names on it, which is surrounded by the 'key' containing a list of names, giving details of which counties in Ireland the name originates. There is also a number for the relevant coat of arms, which are displayed attractively around the edge as a border. The organisation of the coats of arms is not clear, but that doesn't detract from its attractiveness it just takes a little longer to find the coat of arms you are seeking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coat of arms map, December 7, 2010

This is a nice map of Ireland with common surnames written in their respective counties of origin. There are also a good amount of coats of arms/family crests displayed. I enjoyed the alphabetical list of Irish names and their counties of origin that are on the map where i could even locate a rare Irish name like my own. Im going to definetly have this framed and placed in my Man Cave. Its a very nice product.
