Book Description

At a crossroads in her life and career, orphaned Ali Dearborn had always been the smart one. With near perfect recall, she accomplished a lot in a very short time. A meteoric rise led to an equally meteoric fall. With her life and career in shambles, she goes in search of her mother's roots in Ireland. Lost, she offers handsome Aidan O'Connell a lift from his broken-down car and gains an impromptu tour guide. But is Aidan only looking for a brief Irish Fling?

"The author does an amazing job with this well written tale of love at first sight...." "This is the second book I've read in this Valerie Douglas series about a group of four friends, Ali, Cam, Maggie and Jesse who didn't have a normal family life, but found each other and made their own. So far I've read Ali's Story "Irish Fling", and Molly's story "Director's Cut", and I'm looking forward to reading about Cam in "Dirty Politics" and Jesse in "Two Up". What can I say, I'm hooked!"

From the Author

This book was loosely based - very loosely based - on a trip I took to Great Britain. I did pick up a very sexy hitchhiker, but he wasn't anything like Aidan. The descriptions of the sites I saw were as accurate as I could remember. If you get a chance, do a tour through the Burren....

3.0 out of 5 stars Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf Reviews October 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I haven't read a romance in a long time and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It started off as a simple travel/self discovery/love at first sight story but then luckily for me morphed nicely into a bit more. I am generally not a fan of the whole love at first sight, divided by a ridiculous conflict, and then reunited to find lasting love type story: But this story managed to make me enjoy it nonetheless. The character development was well done and the setting in Ireland so gorgeous that I managed to find the love story believable despite itself.

Just when I feared there was no much more left to the story there was a small mystery thrown it to keep my interest though the end.

All in all, a fun quick read...a really believable love story and an entertaining way to pass a rainy day. I doubt I'll pick up the others in the series...but I don't regret reading this one.

NOTE: Honest Review of a book from my personal library - purchased from another retailer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! August 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The author does an amazing job with this well written tale of love at first sight. Ali Dearborn is at a crossroads in her career and in life. Orphaned at a young age, she moved around living in various foster homes. She travels to Ireland with a dual purpose in mind, one is to re-visit the Irish roots belonging to her mother, making her feel connected to a family she's longed for, and the other is to put her new business plan into action.

Her sense of direction is horrible, lost almost immediately after her arrival fate steps in, in the form of a gorgeous dark haired, blued eyed Irishman named Aidan O'Connell. He's stranded by the side of the road with a broken-down car, and she's in need of directions. While entranced by his sexy good looks, easy going attitude, and sexy Irish brogue, he designates himself as her very own personal tour guide, and she accepts. Having him around will certainly make her life easier. There's a chemistry between the two of them, and there are several historical spots along the way that she'd like to see, but is Aidan only looking for an Irish fling or is he willing to accept her heart with something more permanent before it's too late? Ali is full of surprises, and it isn't until he almost loses her that he gets a wake-up call, and Ali is deemed a hero.

This is the second book I've read in this Valerie Doulgas series about a group of four friends, Ali, Cam, Maggie and Jesse who didn't have a normal family life, but found each other and made their own. So far I've read Ali's Story "Irish Fling", and Maggie's story "Director's Cut", and I'm looking forward to reading about Cam in "Dirty Politics" and Jesse in "Two Up". What can I say, I'm hooked!

As an Irish girl, longing for the Emerald Isle... I'd have to say that Valerie Douglas made me feel at home. As for love at first sight... Always been a fairy tale. This story made me believe in love and magic all over again!
I love Ali and Aiden. No two people deserve happiness more. I'm glad they found their way to each other.

I downloaded this to read on a rainy Sunday afternoon...and I was not disappointed. Engaging characters, a satisfying story line and a lot of nice little historical tidbits about Ireland thrown in for good measure. A nice romantic escape. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love Beyond The Pale November 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In Irish Fling, Valerie Douglas treats her readers to a joyful ride through the Irish Countryside. Beautiful Ali, an American with Irish roots, is taking some well-deserved vacation when she meets and falls for Aidan's good looks and charm. The plot is full of surprises which includes intrigue, danger and tear jerking events. A page turner from the get-go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nerds Rule! February 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good solid romance story about two techies. Love that super sweet heroine was slightly geekish. She's brainy, loves history, fiercely independent and was highly admired/attracted by the guys in her guy dominated field. This novel has a little of everything: various points of view, Irish history, suspense, romance, good supporting characters (especially Adam and Jacques who need their own stories) and ofcourse great love scenes.
