5.0 out of 5 stars Our favorite song!
I bought this cd hoping for a little bit of good Irish music, as I had come across a few less-than-savory albums in the past. I could not have found a better cd!

My two-year-old, my sixteen-year-old sister, my mother, and I (at age twenty-one) all love the sixth track more than any other song we've ever heard. We play it over and over on long road trips and hardly...

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning
If you're looking at Amazon's track list for this CD and the first song is "The Dusty Miller/Cucanandy," be aware that you will probably be sent a different "Irish Jigs and Reels" with the same cover/color scheme, but a different set of songs. I own the CD with "The Dusty Miller/Cucanandy," which I ordered from Amazon a few months ago, and it is excellent. However, I...

Kuddos to the artists. Thanks for adding joy to our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Finest of Irish Music, July 14, 2005
This review is from: Irish Jigs And Reels (Audio CD)
Hi there,
Ronan Browne from CRAN here. Great music here and sure why wouldn't it be with Desi Wilkinson, Sean Corcoran and Neill Martin. These tracks date from the early days of CRAN before I joined. Yes, a lot of the tracks are poached from CRAN's 1st CD which we are now re-releasing ourselves having wrested it back from the unsavory people who had held it in a strangle-hold for the last 10 years! While no money goes to us from this compilation, it does bring us to your attention and allows you to look for our legitimate CDs, The Crooked Stair, Black Black Black, The Lover's Ghost, and Music from the edge of the world, all of which are available on Amazon.
Happy listening to all - not everyone is a crook!
Cheers,
Ronan

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful vocals, upbeat tunes, February 23, 2001

In my quest to expand my Irish dance library, I came across this CD. I didn't really know anything about it, but took the plunge anyway. I can't believe I was actually reluctant to acquire it. The fourth track is my favorite, with the mezmerizing Irish chants and pennywhistle. The two vocal tracks, three and six, will transport you to the windwhipped cliffs of Ireland. Others will make you want to get up and dance. The tracks are hard to turn off--you almost feel guilty afterward.

Don't miss this CD. Besides, at $4, how can you go wrong?

Happy listening, Dani Girl

I own the CD with "The Dusty Miller/Cucanandy," which I ordered from Amazon a few months ago, and it is excellent. However, I recently ordered another copy as a gift and was surprised to see a new set of songs on an otherwise identical-looking CD. They sent a replacement and it was still the wrong one.

I listened to the "updated" CD and it's not nearly as good as the previous one, but enjoyable nonetheless. It consists of 12 fast-paced reels/jigs and no singing. I gave the one-star rating so people can be aware of this discrepancy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A toe-tapper!, April 10, 2002

This is a wonderful album of traditional Irish instrumental and vocal music, marred only by the lack of any liner notes to identify the performers. I would love to have followed up by seeking out recordings by some of them. If you want to make your day go faster, and enjoy the musical sunshine on your back, you can't go wrong with this recording.

This is a really good CD for anyone who loves Irish music. As an Irish dancer, I found it really good to dance to. Even if you do not dance, this is still a good CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional Irish music at its best, January 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Irish Jigs And Reels (Audio CD)
This CD is exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a CD with traditional Irish music, much like the music you would hear if you were in a pub in Ireland. Having been to Ireland twice, I knew I wanted more of the traditional Irish music that's played there than the Irish drinking songs associated with Ireland. While listening to this CD, I felt like I was back in Ireland sitting in a pub, relaxing while having a pint and listening to great music. Recommend this to anyone who wants traditional Irish music.

To see my comment, please check out the 1-star review that BlueNote wrote. I made a comment off his review about how the same thing happened to me. BEWARE!! The CD you receive will probably not be the one you ordered!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Get down Boyo!, August 21, 2007

This review is from: Irish Jigs And Reels (Audio CD)
I am one of these guys who is of Irish descent but grew up in a completely Americanized household and neighborhood. I have virtually no first-hand experience with Irish culture aside from the few remnants that may have trickled down to me through the generations. Nevertheless, I still feel a vague connection to the culture and people and wanted to get in touch with my Irishness, so to speak. Hence, I purchased 'Irish Jigs and Reels.' I found this CD to be quite a pleasant listening experience and it seems to be a good representation of Irish folk music. It's almost all instrumental, but it's very upbeat and uplifting. Lots of fiddles, flutes, accordians, etc. If I was dancer I could picture myself doing a jig to it, and if I was a drinker, I could definitely picture myself throwing down a few (dozen) pints to it. As it is now, I just listen to it in my car and try to be one with the Boyo in me. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is that most of the songs sound so similar, with the exception of a different tempo here and there. This seems to be the case with most Irish folk music I've heard but perhaps this is just my amateur ear. Nevertheless, an enjoyable CD, and for five bucks, how can you go wrong?

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish Jigs and Soaring Tunes, January 10, 2001

I remember being reluctant to order this CD when I first came across it in my search for a good CD of Irish Jigs. Having little experience with this kind of music, but wanting to learn more about it, I didn't want my first purchase to be a mistake. However, a small part of me insisted that I go full throttle and buy the music. I have been anything but disappointed. Irish Jigs and Reels is a *fantastic* CD, and I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in Irish culture and music. Perhaps the biggest perk for me was the variety of music presented on the CD. It ranges from fast paced jigs that will take your breath away (literally - I've tried dancing to them ;-) to soulful serenades in a wonderful Irish brogue, guaranteed to make you think of your own sweetheart. This range of styles has given me a much broader and more inclusive perspective about Irish music, and helped me to know what to look for in other CDs. This is not only an excellent CD to start your collection with, but also a wonderful addition to any well established CD anthology. I would heartily recommend purchasing it to anyone who is at all unsure as to whether or not it is a worthwhile acquisition. I know that I have enjoyed it, and I'm willing to bet that you will too.
