4.0 out of 5 stars Break out the Brogue!!
If you can muster up a good Irish brogue and delight in the Irish folklore, you and your Irish friends & family will truly enjoy this book at Christmas time. A silly account of those troublesome Irish elves trying to help out Father Christmas. Enjoy! Nollaig Sona Agut!

1.0 out of 5 stars An Irish Night Before Christmas
How sweet! Let's portray Santa as a drunken Irish fool who totally bumbles Christmas.

It is derogatory, inflammatory and a total slam of insults to an entire culture of people. To portray the Irish as drunken bums and elvish creatures with no brains.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nollaig Hona Guit--Merry Christmas to you in Irish, December 13, 2005
This review is from: Irish Night Before Christmas, An (The Night Before Christmas Series) (Hardcover)
I was attending a small Christmas party with fellow Irish speakers, when during the feastivities a seanahie (storyteller)read An Irish night before Christmas. He brought back my youth in Ireland with Father Christmas. He read the story as if we were youngsters again, showing us the pictures on each page. We slowly formed a storytelling circle and enjoyed every word and picture. This book is for all who want to relive their youth at the most childish time of the year. If you pass on this book you will be forever in the dark about Father Christmas (Santa Claus)in Ireland.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wee Bit of the Irish for Christmas, November 3, 2004

This review is from: Irish Night Before Christmas, An (The Night Before Christmas Series) (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my daughter Bridget and it is a great read. A very nice take on the classic. Whether you are of Irish heritage or not... all will enjoy. It is quite humorous for adults and children alike. I enjoy reading this to my daughter around Christmas time and of course on Christmas Eve. As the Irish say, "Tis good craic(fun)"! We love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Will appeal to children ages 5 and up, December 23, 2009
This review is from: Irish Night Before Christmas, An (The Night Before Christmas Series) (Hardcover)
"An Irish Night Before Christmas" is a versed, mischievous re-imagining of the Clement Moore Christmas classic with a true Irish twist. Studded with footnoted Gaelic Irish saying and names, "An Irish Night Before Christmas" presents the complete story as it would be told in the setting of a traditional Irish cottage home. Instead of eight reindeer and a sleigh, Santa drives a cart with a donkey. Santa is assisted by seven wee elf helpers named Sean, Patrick, Kevin, Kerry, Colum, Cormac, and Angus. Instead of cookies and milk, the snack left for Santa is plum pudding and poteen, or whiskey, and trifle. Eleven creepy children sleep snug in their beds, and Neddy the donkey waits patiently on the roof, eating the straw! "An Irish Night Before Christmas" is sure to bring a twinkle to the eyes of all who read it, charmed by the verse and the imagery of the fantasy paintings of an Irish Christmas. An addition to "The Night Before Christmas Series," "An Irish Night Before Christmas" will appeal to children ages 5 and up.

As a full blood Irish, I take personal offense to the book and it's portrayal of subject matter. Maybe this author needs to take another look at the Irish Culture, and find out what we are REALLY like. She might just get a wee bit of a shock.
