5.0 out of 5 stars Great Irish Recipe Book March 7, 2012
By Tucker
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book is a great collection of recipes, toasts and songs all related to Irish culture. Over the course of the book the author inserts the reader into Irish culture: first with a comprehensive look at St. Patrick's Day and its history, then with Irish recipes, toasts, and songs. Included in the book is over forty different recipes for drinks, some great toasts, and an awesome drinking song. Overall, the book was quite informative and has many great recipes for drinking. In my life I have tried a couple of these recipes and after buying this book I think I might try some more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun all year round March 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Irish whiskey is my tipple of choice, so I had to grab this!

Sean has written a great all round book, with a wonderful personal introduction to his novel writing time spent in Dublin, to the history of St Patrick's day and what the Irish drink to celebrate (I was relieved to find out that green beer is an American invention!

There are then a wonderful selection of drink and cocktail recipes, which would certainly suit a shot of Bushmills or two (I personally wouldn't use my Power's as I only mix it with ice!)

The last part of the book is dedicated to traditional Irish toasts and drinking songs - exactly what you need after consuming a few of the cocktails!

2.0 out of 5 stars Average
The repetitiveness of the toasts are totally unnecessary. May try some of the drinks on St Patricks day on Sunday though.

More About the Author

Hi there. I'm Sean Healy. I am a first generation Irish-American. My Mom and Dad are both originally from Dublin. So I was raised with authentic Irish cooking. I also learned a thing or two about Irish stout beers and Irish whiskey. But my real education in "Irish spirits" took place when I lived in Dublin for a year. It was a fantastic experience and I learned a lot about Irish warmth and hospitality as well as the proper way to drink a Guinness Draught.

I'm an aspiring writer and currently work as a substitute teacher in Chicago. In my spare time I write, run, cycle and slackline.

My "local" pub is Celtic Crossings on Clark which is a pretty authentic "Dublin" bar owned by three Irishmen. It has a red Victorian exterior but it's the inside that feels like home. Wooden floor, nice long wooden bar, chairs and tables spread out for a good chat with friends. The even have a working stone fireplace. On weekends they have music. The Guinness is as close to a perfect pint as you'll find outside of Ireland.

No food at Celtic so when I'm hungry I either wait for Sunday dinner at Mom and Dad's or I go over to the Gage on Michigan Avenue. The Gage is larger and has both traditional Irish and regular food. The Guinness is pretty good there too.
