5.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome Approach, January 11, 2006
This review is from: Irish Session Tunes - The Blue Book (Paperback)
Although this book contains many well known tunes, it is refreshing, in that it presents the tunes in "sets." A set, in terms of Irish session playing, is a group of tunes that goes together. Depending on the locale, some tunes always are played back to back with others. This book presents about 100 tunes in 40 sets.

The settings of the tunes themselves are straightforward, and unencumbered with ornaments--rolls, graces, cuts, taps, etc--which leaves that element of the tune to the discretion of the player. Additionally, though I haven't heard it, a CD is available with the tunes for those who prefer learning aurally.

I highly recommend the series of which this book is a part.
