I'm wearing them for hiking and they have a good amount of flex in the ankle while still providing support.
Fit perfect and is very light.
This is my third pair of Irish Setter boots because I am a big fan of the quality and design of their products.

I absolutely fell in love with this boot! Fit perfect and is very light. Much like a running shoe, but with the ruggedness needed for hunting the mountains. I bought this pair in May with expectations to use the summer to break them in for my up coming deer and elk hunts in September. I noticed this morning though that the tread is all but gone.....how can this be???? I might wear these once a week to break them in, and now they are slick... too slick to wear in the mountains for sure. Now I'm tasked with buying another pair of hunting boots, and trying to break them in over the next 2 weeks before my hunt. 12 month Warranty????? I called Amazon and they said it was past the return timeline. Called Irish setter/Redwing... they said to call Amazon... back and forth with no satisfaction.
Frustration is I planned well ahead to avoid last minute hurdles that always pop up..... as it turns out my early planning is now the cause.... you're killing me Amazon and Redwing...... I sent emails to both companies... I sure hope I get a response with a happy result.

These are some great boots. They're tru fit, but if you choose to wear heavy thick socks or padded insoles, go a 1/2 size up. Ultra dry proof and waterproof, great for hunting, hiking or any job outdoors. Red wing has always been a premium boot. These are the Irish Setter series. Well worth the money

I purchased these boots a little over a year ago, and I used them pretty heavily through about one hunting season, and they are shot. They are comfortable once you break them in. They are very narrow as others have described, and it took my feet a bit to get accustomed to the narrow fit. I found that they are particularly tight right at the center of the foot where the sole wraps up around the foot for tree stand use. If you do purchase these boots, I'd either go with a wide version, or go up a half size. They do feel somewhat like a basketball shoe once they are broken in as they aren't very heavy, and they are comfortable.

My two biggest problems with these boots is that the sole wears down very quickly and the boots are pretty much shot after one season of wearing them. All of the tread has worn down and rounded off after a year of use, and I won't wear them anywhere that I know I'll need good traction as they don't have much left. When I say the boots are shot, I'm mostly referring to the waterproofing and general structure of the canvas portion of the boot. I have holes in both boots where the foot flexes, and the water just runs in freely if they come into contact with any (one side note about the canvas is that it doesn't make them any more breathable than leather in my opinion just because of the waterproofing that's added).

I guess the bottom line is that you shouldn't expect to get more than one season out of these boots if you intend to use them regularly like a hunting boot is meant to be used. They aren't terribly expensive, and they are comfortable when they are broken in, but they won't last you very long, and you should know that in advance as you'll be buying another pair of boots in another year.

This is a definite skip in the red wing / Irish setter line. I for the most part think very highly of red wing products , they are a far better investment than buying cheap W mart type shoes . But the VaprTrek line Is a do not buy. There is nothing good of the entire design line.

Frist the line runs extremely small and narrow, though most shoes now seam to be getting smaller. I usually wear a 10.5 w, But with this design I had to go 11.5 just for summer single socks. The width is absolutely horrible, the hard rubber "support" sides which are angled up towards the first lace eyelet cut into the boot making it way to narrow. after about 1 hr of wear I have to switch boots as are too painful to wear.

Second is tread design. the boot does not make any grip in snow or ice, though mud and dirt is fine and clears well. However, again the "support" side angle pieces cut into the shoe, and have actually taken out any tread in that section of the sole, so a 1/4 of the sole has no tread.

Third are seams and stitching. there are seams everywhere on the boot. don't know how long till they all start to pull away but the worst is at the front toe section wear the rubber meets the fabric. after only 8 months of off and on casual wear, non work wear or rugged hiking, the front stitching is wearing loose.

a Plus side of boot is weather proof, they do seam to stay dry and wick moisture, tread does clear out well. The scent mask/ odor eater is meaning and useless.

Overall DO NOT BUY. there are other great red wing shoes at the same cost level, even better priced. I am quite upset with red wing for make such a horrible product. I did buy in off season at $99 but the cost is savings don't make up for an unwearable/ uncomfortable shoe that falls apart within a year.

These boots run on the smaller side. I bought these boots in a 9 1/2 half size and returned them for a size 10. Amazon was great about the return and exchange !! Would recommend ordering a half size larger or similar to running shoes to avoid your toes from pounding on the hard rubber toe end........ only if you are dumb enough ( like me) to buy these boots.
These boots fit and feel comfortable in the store but don't buy them !!!! Just walk away !!
I would not ever recommend these boots for hunting or outdoors. They are poorly made and the materials will not stand up to hunting or walking in brush. I just got these boots and only after 4 days hunting grouse in Maine the nylon fabric has already torn on the side where it flexes with the rubber.. I am not sure how I can get my money back on these but if I can ensure that no one else will ever buy these boots it will satisfy me. . Unless you are wanting a pair of boots to wear will sitting on a riding lawnmower DO NOT BUY these boots. Save your money!
