5.0 out of 5 stars This alblum was a pleasant surprise, September 4, 2005

Great CD. I discovered Brian quite by accident - I'd been a fan of Delta Goodrem for a few months, and she has a duet with Brian (Almost Here, and yes it's on this alblum), so I knew him as the male voice in that, but that was it... then one day when I was in Auckland, New Zealand on a study-abroad, I got on the wrong bus while going to meet some of my friends to hang out after class, and so I got off at the first Starbucks we passed since that was a familiar location, and across the street I heard music coming out of a music store... and there was a huge crowd... and it turns out Brian was doing an In-Store preformance/cd signing there in just over an hour from when I arrived... so I hung out there until he showed up, and I got to hear all of his alblum being played and a few songs that he did live (including one he'd only sang once prior to that in-store), and I bought a copy of Irish Son and had him sign it.
In summary, I feel this is a great alblum and that Brian is really nice. My favourite songs on this alblum are Real To Me, Irish Son, Sorry Love Daddy, Walking Into Walls, and Pull Myself Away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish Son is a great surprise, May 7, 2005

I live in the USA and although I heard of the group Westlife, it was not music I listened to. But one day I was on the internet searching the UK charts for new music and came across Irish Son by Brian Mcfadden. I was immediately a fan. I looked for more songs of his. His sound is fresh and every song on the album is one I can listen to. Normally you are lucky to have two songs that you want to listen to over and over. This album is full of songs you can listen to and it never gets boring. I know some people bash him because of his past boyband connections, but Brian has grown into a great artist. I hope he soon hits the USA with a tour. I would love to see a show. Thanks Amazon for selling his CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Star of His Own, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Irish Son (Audio CD)
I was devasted when I heard Brian McFadden was to leave Westlife, who are simply the best band alive in this world. So yeah, I was horrified, n I just couldn't wait until his album was released.

And when I got my hands on it, I wasn't let down in any way. It's often a wonder why Brian hid his songwriting skills when he was still part of the band. His husky voice, accompanied with the sad lyrics of the love ballads, just makes you swoon.

Obviously he's been through quite a rough time, thus resulting in his decision to leave the band. All the songs which have lyrics from the heart, especially "Sorry Love Daddy" and "Just Be True to Your Woman" are extremely heartfelt, and brought tears to my eyes when I first heard them. "Irish Son" and "Real to Me" are songs referring to his childhood and times at Westlife respectively.

What Brian McFadden has as a songwriter is the ability to make sense of his lyrics. Some modern songwriters finish a song, and end up not knowing what it is actually about. However, this is not the case. Every song tells a story, whether it's in detail, emotion or pure abstract.

The final duet, with sweetheart Delta Goodrem, takes my breath away every time I hear it. The instumental arrangements really showcase Brian's sexy but boyish voice, while the sudden softness makes Delta sound like an angel. When they sing the harmonies, it's magic. They click together so easily. No wonder they're a match made in heaven.

Anyway, Irish Son doesn't disappoint at all, and I'd recommend it to all people who like to listen to ballads, or those who are Westlife fans, because you can't help feeling sympathetic for him. But he needs none of that--Brian McFadden is a true star of his own now.
