4.0 out of 5 stars Different but still good, October 30, 2005
This review is from: Iron Blessings (Audio CD)
Maybe not a four, but a 3 ½. This is one of my favorite bands, but not their greatest work. If your already a fan of Sacred Steel, don't expect the True Metal anthems you heard on their past stuff, this is completely different from the old SS (though I haven't heard Slaughter Prophecy yet). The music and lyrics are leaning to the Death Metal side, there are even a lot of growls and stuff, which I think is kinda cool to mix in every once in a while. But don't worry, there are still the traditional squeals and whelps of Gerrit P. Mutz. There's only one song talking about Metal (which I really hate I expected, and wanted to hear about slaying posers of Metal and so forth), only a few songs talking about steel and swords and stuff (which I hate even more) and very few guitar solo's, and the ones that they do have aren't very good (which sucks too), but SS aren't really known for having good guitarist. Most of the lyrics are about Satan, and terminating the Christian religion, (that's what really turned me off, I hate lyrics like that). It's still a pretty good CD, the songs are:

Open Wide the Gate: My favorite song, very awesome chorus.
Your Darkest Savior: A gay name, but another really awesome song and a great chorus. Most is sung in growls.
Screams of the Tortured: A good song, faster than most.
The Sabbat of the Possessed: A good song, fast, and awesome backing vocals in the chorus.
Beneath the Iron Hand: Another good song, great chorus.
Anointed By Bloodshed: Ok song, and an ok chorus.
Victory of Black Steel: Great song, a lot of growls and a cool chorus.
I am the Conqueror (come and worship me), Crucified in Heaven, and The Chains of the Nazarene are the most antichrist songs, their ok, Chains of the Nazarene is a softer song.
We Die Fighting: The only song about Metal, great song but the chorus is kinda weak.

All the songs are pretty fast, faster than the older stuff. If you get the one with the DVD, it's pretty cool, it just has them in the studio and the band history, but it would only play on my computer. This is a pretty good album, but if you are new to Sacred Steel I suggest you start with Worgods Of Metal, that's their best album and one of the best Metal albums of all time, or Bloodlust. Beware of Gerrit's vocals, they are unique if you will, well actually they kinda suck, but you'll get used to them after a while. He is A LOT better singer on this CD.
