I bought a set of these knives because it came with five different sizes that I thought would be useful for multiple jobs around the kitchen. Boy did these knives come sharp, I tried slicing a piece of paper like they do on tv and it cut like butter. I then tested each of these on various fruits, vegetables, and meat. What I found was that the main santoku knife is great for multitasking such as onion dicing and meat slicing. The two smaller knives are great for cutting fruit or any small cutting/slicing job. The big cleaver of course can be used for separating ribs or giving parsley a fine chop. The steel goes all the way through to the end of the handle and after 6 months of use they still seem to be in very good condition. The only fault I can find is that the plastic black part just before the handle is slipping off of the cleaver. It goes back into place when you push it and it doesn't seem to cause any real problems, but it is a bit annoying. Also, after regular use, these knives need a good sharpening, which most knives need sometime in their lifetime...right?
Bottom line is, these aren't the best or most expensive knives, but for under $100 dollars these make a great set. I cook at home as a hobby and is no where near restaurant quality chef, but these work for almost everything you would normally prepare in a home kitchen. The bamboo holding block is easy to use and is relatively heavy to hold the knives in place, but it can look out of place depending on your kitchen design. But knives are meant to cut and slice, and these do just that!

I have bought this set over 2 years ago. Since then, I have been using it all the time. They are very sharp and easy to use. I cook American, Japanese and Chinese food and I have every knife I need. One thing you may want to pay attention that you need have a old fashion knife shape stone and shape the the knifes a few times before you use them for cooking a big meal.
