this book was reccomended by a friend. it took some time to hunt down a copy from the origional release, however it is possible and dirt cheap. from the moment i read the first page i was hooked, it a cleaverly written story of a young girl, a tale about her magical upbringing in a world of dragons and fairys. there are deep messages hidden in swanwick's prose. please take the moment to find yourself a copy (ask for it to be made available on kindle!) you will never regrett for a moment the time you spend in the magical world created in this novel.

I don't know why he wasted his talent writing such an ugly novel. The storyline is weak, seemingly existing as a thread binding together certain scenes he wanted to write. It does have some great leaps of imagination, however, and I might (cautiously) try some of his other work.
If this was the first deconstruction of the fantasy genre written (I don't know if it was) I'll give him an extra two stars for that. But I certainly see no reason why anyone else needs to write one. |
