i love this record. yes, its brand spankin new, but its easy to consume as far as being a metal record. i just dont understand how they dont have more fans cus these guys are the pantera of now and the future and thats a fact. this album will crush all the posers out there, hands down. so do urself a favor and buy this amazing cd. its only 9.99 at hot topic for a short time, so do it! u wont be disappointed, i promise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, at times great...but then at times ...eh...?!, May 7, 2010
This review is from: Iron Gag (Audio CD)
I'm a gigantic fan of ALOL. I believe they had created a unique sound, equal parts southern sludge, early Victory Records hardcore, a touch of scandenavian death metal, and blended with polyrhythmic chugging. The sound on A Great Artist owed tons to Meshuggah, but was so awesome because of the American riffs and viscious screaming. The evolution continued on Hunter, which was a ton more accesible than A Great Artist and still razor sharp. Iron Gag is..... different?!? For one thing it is so much more straight-forward than anything theyv'e done. It doesn't take repeat listenings to pull out all the intricacies of the riffs or the vocals. In short, it's much more catchy. The vocals are actually a little dissappointing, to me at least. Bob Meadows does a great job annunciating so you can understand most of the lyrics, but his delivery is so much more simple. The vocals are rarely layered to create the same scary effects created on earlier albums. The visciousness is almost completely gone from his voice, which basically leaves a hollow roar that is nothing new or special. That being said, Bob's dynamics up and down vocal notes are much better and add a small amount of creativity, almost evening out the constant roaring. The new additions which are welcome, and kick ass, are catchy, memorable, lead and rhythm riffs, solid top-notch but more relaxed drumming, and songs that stand on their own, as different sounding from each other! There are party metal anthems like "Firewater Joyride" and "Worship" which have a Pantera type swing to them. There are punishing, brutal tracks, that make you want to tear the pit apart like "Detest" and "Ill Will". There are also some curve-balls, like the slow, un-classifiable "Pigeonholed", and the almost anthemic sing along "The Wanderer", both of which are experiments that work and break the traditional ALOL sound. The other songs are no less memorable or good, and have moments in each that are distinctly rip roaring ALOL. The problem with Iron Gag, is that even though every song has merit, some of the songs have moments that feel very... mainstream?! Alot of the pi$$ and vinegar seem to be removed which makes Iron Gag reminiscient of Every Time I Die at times. However, taken as a whole, Iron Gag is still a good album, and at times great. I gaurantee these riffs and songs will stick in your head in a way ALOL have never done before!

3.0 out of 5 stars This album is okay, October 4, 2007
This review is from: Iron Gag (Audio CD)
This album was actually a major dissapointment for me. I was a huge fan of all their past albums. This one is too generic and lamb of god sounding. the very frenzied angry vocals are gone which was probably my favorite part of this band. This album is not bad but it is nothing new or great check it out if you like the new lamb of god stuff or you are a fan of their previous albums.
