5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the Movie & the first game!
I'm not a big fan of Iron Man, but I do like technologically advanced games, puzzles, and fighting. This game has them all. After playing the whole thing, I think it is better than the Movie! It starts off a bit slow, but gets better and better the farther in the game one gets! If you like superheroes at all, you should try this game!

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Iron Man Game
Iron Man 2 is a step above its predecessor in almost every way. The flight controls are so much easier to use in Iron Man 2 which makes for a better experience controlling the main character. 3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Iron Man Game, May 27, 2010

Iron Man 2 is a step above its predecessor in almost every way. The flight controls are so much easier to use in Iron Man 2 which makes for a better experience controlling the main character. I enjoyed this game for the most part, I know it isn't the greatest game of all time and yes it was short, but I found it to serve its purpose. The ability to play as both Iron Man and War Machine was a nice added bonus as well which added a little replay to the game. Overall, I can't recommend this game because of it's short length and asking for a full price of $59.99 is a bit too much. $29.99 is a fair price for this game and if and when it drops to that price, maybe it is worth checking out.

Gameplay is a step up from the first Iron Man game, although camera control and weapon targeting are still not great. Targeting a multiple-target weapon never works quite break, target lock breaks on a whim, and it is difficult to get a sense of the battlefield - the viewing angle should really have been as an FPS, not over the shoulder game, or at the very least had that as an option.

The objectives can be difficult to meet, especially when progress isn't clear, and there is no reliable way to know just where you're in danger (the object you're protecting it getting hit? By what? Is it above or below you? And how far away is it?). The minimap is little of little to no use in an all out firefight.

The art direction is a bit off - the actors have clearly not given permission for their actual images to be used in the game, so they're all lightly distorted in an off-putting manner. If you're expecting the in-game characters to look exactly like their movie counterparts, you'll be quite disappointed.

All that said, for $20 or less, how much are you expecting? If you're a fan of Iron Man or trying to pick up quick achievements, this game isn't a bad way to meet either want. You can play as Iron Man from any number of suit eras, upgrade weaponry and skills to empower yourself, and play as a comic book superhero in one of the better comic book super hero video games out now for around as much as you paid to see the original movie in the theater.

2.0 out of 5 stars Movie Series Deserves Better Than This, June 22, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Video Game)
The original Iron Man was probably the worst Marvel comics related game of the last ten or so years, barely edging out Daredevil largely because Daredevil didn't actually come out for home consoles. So, it's been 2 years and Sega has learned their lesson, right?

Well, to be gentle, no. I hate using the term "crap" as an adjective, but it is the cleanest and least offensive phrase I can use to describe the quality of this terrible movie tie-in. Now, it's not the like usual movie tie-in where they were handicapped by the storyline of the movie. The game doesn't really have much to do with the movie, outside of the fact that Iron Man and War Machine exist. It's an original story of Stark Industries-related hijinks and shenanigans.

It's also really, really bad. I think this game actually looks WORSE than Iron Man 1, which did not set any new standards in the world of attractive-looking visuals in a game. Iron Man and War Machine look decent enough, but everything else looks like it was done on a PS2. and I loathe to use that term out of concern of insulting the venerable PS2.

I can handle poor visuals (I didn't utterly loathe Two Worlds, which looked like a microwaved turd), but when you add in the joys of a really bad camera, you hit a new apex of terrible. While, logically, not being able to see all of an ugly world SEEMS like a God send, it is very much not one. You are asked to attack targets on enemies, and the hardest part is not targeting the things (that is actually fairly easy), but actually FINDING the stupid things is a headache. You have to find small targets on a massive enemy and you get blasted to next week while trying to figure out if the target is on top, beneath, or somewhere in the middle. On occasion, I am fairly certain that the targets are actually over in Borderlands, which also doubles as a, you know, really good game.

I will give them credit in saying that the controls are better than the original. That is, to give you a professional heads up, a bit of "damning with faint praise". The controls are better than the unplayable original, but few games were much worse than the original in that regard. Floating/hovering is easy. One button goes up, one goes down, left trigger auto targets missiles and right trigger fires the guns. It is when you MOVE while flying that issues commence. You can tap the left button twice to fly and, allegedly, when you pull back on the left stick, you are supposed to stop. I might have missed the addendum of "...about half of the time", but that is basically what happens.

Difficulty in missions also has bizarre fluctuations. It is OK for a while, then the game rapes you. You almost have to GRIND to actually get enough money to get good enough weapons to finish the level, and I got sick of grinding about 4 console generations ago. I quit playing because I found a mission irritating and don't like the game nearly enough to go back and get enough money to really pimp out my weaponry.

I likely view this game as being WORSE than the original because, in defense of the original, it didn't have itself to serve as an example of what not to do. This sequel does and it still hits most of the negatives. It is better, but it is still terrible and I'm wondering if Iron Man is as impossible to make a compelling game about as Superman (I'd have named Aquaman here, but Iron Man isn't lame, so there). I don't want to call it the worst game of the year, but I will say it is one strong candidate for that award.

2.0 out of 5 stars About what you'd expect, May 11, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Video Game)
The video game tie-in to Iron Man 2 is pretty much everything you'd expect it to be: a rushed piece of shovelware that, while providing a couple sparks of entertainment, doesn't add up to being anything too enjoyable in the least. Choosing to play as either Iron Man or War Machine, Iron Man 2 pretty much follows the same formula as the first game; which is taking on baddies, flying around, and blowing stuff up. That pretty much sums up Iron Man 2 as a whole, along with a plethora of sloppy controls, sub-par graphics, and almost zero replayability. There is barely enough entertainment value for fans of the comic and/or film to garner from playing, but like most licensed video games, there isn't nearly enough here to hold your interest.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Stark would be very disappointed, June 17, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Video Game)
This game can be fun in the facet that you get to play as either Iron Man or War Machine, but is, otherwise, an incredibly flawed game. The bugs and glaringly poor production value are evident from the instant that you place this game into your video game console.

It is likeliest worthwhile for a fan of Iron Man to play through, but, it is very hard to ignore this game's flaws, of which there are many. Too many.

Overall, this game was written with a decent enough story, and the game play can be fun, even in spite of it's own brokenness, but overall, a poorly produced game at the end of the day.

Sega has the means and talent to do better, and being "rushed" is no excuse. Any fan who will be willing to pay full retail selling price for such a video game deserves a well written, well produced video game, and a good experience. If a game developer can't offer that, and intentionally shortcuts the product, as was painfully evident in this game, then they don't deserve the contract to develop the game. It's that simple.

If Sega doesn't feel that their customers are worth the effort, some other developer will come along who does think that they are worth the effort.

If someone wants to play an all around exceptional superhero video game, they should look to the DC Comics universe, and purchase either Batman: Arkham Asylum, or The Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters. Even the (originally downloadable only) Watchmen game, The End is Nigh, outshined this title, and was made with far less resources than Sega has at their disposal.

Batman Arkham Asylum: Game of the Year Platinum Hits

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters

Watchmen: The End is Nigh - Part 1 & 2

Consumers would rather have you miss a marketing deadline coinciding with the movie and make a great game than get a poorly developed game released at the same time as the movie. You don't need the marketing feeding frenzy to sell a good game. Word will travel if the game is well produced, and people will buy it.

Consumers should give their money to the developers who give them their money's worth. It's that simple, really.

If this is the best that this developer is willing to do, then, they'll probably go out of business, and, in all honesty, if this is the best that they are willing to do, then they deserve to go out of business.

The "quick buck ($$$)" never prevails in the long run. Especially when a consumer is immediately turned off to future products just based on who developed it (because of their past work).

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid This at All Costs, June 5, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Video Game)
Things You Might Like:

*Don Cheadle's voice
*The game box doesn't have poisonous barbs

Things You Might Not Like:

*Awkward controls that feel detached from what's happening on the screen
*Garbled visuals reminiscent of early PS2 games
*The quality of the lines read by the always-underappreciated Don Cheadle
*Literally everything about this terrible game

Conclusion:

Iron Man 2 is a classic example of a poorly conceived attempt to cash in on a summer blockbuster. Avoid it at all costs.

2.0 out of 5 stars A review of the game after I beat it, May 23, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Iron Man 2 (Video Game)
Well I wont say anything about the story, other then it sucks and has nothing to do with the movie incase anyone cares. The game is a clean game for the most part, it might say A** and hell a few times combined (for parents). The graphics are not great, as well as the controls. At times, the end of the game was the worse, it gets very hard to control. Saying all this it was a little neat to fly while shooting things but overall the 8 levels in the game and the rest of the bland stuff just dont make the game fun and not worth $60 let alone $20. If you really want to try it, just rent it.
