Pages are soaked with art work,

This review is from: Iron Man: The Art of Iron Man, the Movie (Hardcover)
This book contains concept art, photographs, paintings, storyboards, miniatures and live models. The main artists involved were Ryan Meinerding and Phil Sanders. For people who like mechanical stuff, you'll be glad that to know that plenty of iron man designs are included. The drawings are detailed to the nuts and bolts. The evolution of Iron Man from concept to movie can be clearly seen from the first concept art right down to the life size cast created. 3D modelers who are looking for blueprints won't find them in this book. However, there are renders of Iron Man Mark II and Iron Monger from the front and side view. They should be enough to build the blueprint from. Also included are the drawings for the environment, props and gadgets. That includes Tony Stark's house, his workshop and the Arc Reactor. The last part of the book contains storyboards and pre-vis plates. Pre-vis are 3D storyboards screenshots. They discuss the story development and the challenges to shooting the movie. All the pictures in the book are well captioned. They explain clearly the production process and the effect they are trying to achieve. The only bad thing about the book is the paper stock. It is not thick enough. While black pages are cool, the paper has to be thick enough to absorb all the ink. If not, the paper becomes wavy. Luckily, it doesn't affect the visual quality of the images printed. I still gave it a 5-star rating on Amazon -- more to 4.5-star because of the paper stock. (More pictures are available on my blog. I'm glad they did a reprint for this book because it's a great book. There are actually people trying to sell this at hundreds -- note the plural -- of dollars. My copy is actually the hardcover but I borrowed the paperback version from a friend to check if there are any differences. There are none. The paperback features exactly similar content as the hardcover, right down to the paper stock. For that reason, I've just copied my old review from Iron Man: The Art of Iron Man, the Movie(hardcover) and pasted here, with minor edits. The video is from the paperback edition. - This book contains concept art, photographs, paintings, storyboards, miniatures and live models. All are in high resolution and many printed satisfyingly huge. For people who like mechanical stuff, you'll be glad that to know that plenty of Iron man designs are included. The drawings are detailed to the nuts and bolts. The evolution of Iron Man from concept to movie can be clearly seen from the first concept art right down to the life size cast created. However, there are renders of Iron Man Mark II and Iron Monger from the front and side view. They should be enough to build the blueprint from. There are also a couple of cool photos of the Iron maquette made by Stan Winston Studios. Also included are the drawings for the environment, props and gadgets. That includes Tony Stark's house, his workshop and the Arc Reactor. All the pictures in the book are well captioned and artists credited. Commentary explain clearly the production process and the effect they are trying to achieve, story development and challenges shooting the movie. The only bad thing about the book is the paper stock. It's just my minor quibble. It is not thick enough. While black pages are cool, they become wavy after absorbing all the black ink. Luckily, it doesn't affect the visual quality of the images printed. I still gave it a 5-star rating on Amazon -- more to 4.5-star because of the paper stock. (More pictures are available on my blog. This review is from: Iron Man: The Art of Iron Man, the Movie (Hardcover)
I was browsing this book at a comic book store in union square and the contents of art in this book is amazing, so i decided to buy one online cause its cheaper. Amazon has some sellers for this book and i was lucky enough to purchase one for $35.00 from one of them. Unfortunately after 2 months of waiting for the book, the seller decided not to ship me the book because he thinks he can sell it more for a couple of hundred bucks. He always kept making excuses that he shipped it, it was back ordered, or it was returned by the post office or something. Basically he just stalled long enough for me to get a refund. Now that the price is over $200, how am i suppose to find one with a reasonable price. Thanks a lot seller "comics-now", ur stalling has finally paid off.

This is the perfect example of how art books about movies should be: great drawings and pictures (I love Adi Granov art), a lot of them; the book follows the design process very well; the design itself of the book is very good. Globally, it matches the quality of "The art of Star Wars" series in my opinion.

For those wanting to go into Illustion or Design, this a great book to have. The drawings are inspiratinal and the computer renderings and models are out of this world. A definite book to add to your collection.

Very cool to see the concepts and different ideas that went into the making of the movie. Nerd, geek or artist, it's visually stunning.

The book contents are GREAT, the drawings and designs are awesome and what i expected to find. But what was so disappointing was the was the book was made. Poor choice of paper (very thin and lost its shape due to heavy ink prints) and the way it was attached. the pages began to separate after looking threw it probably 2 weeks after i received it brand new.You would think they would put better effort in constructing a book that was priced that high. Great Art. Bad "Book".

A way beyond awesome art of the film book!,
This review is from: Iron Man: The Art of Iron Man the Movie (Paperback)
Book with a lot of hidden surprises:This fantastic book comes with a bunch of detailed and commented pages showing all of the wonderful concepts that were made for this film. Especially enjoyable are the wonderful artworks from (cover artist for this book) Adi Granov. Other than that the book offers a very detailed section that shows Tony Stark and the Iron Man suit in different design stages and as referenced from the comic books. All these artists did a fantastic job and it is a real pleasure to see their designs. It is also very exciting to see how they built a real model of the helmet and the armor! In the book they even show off a man wearing the real made mark 2 Iron Man armor which makes the whole project of creating Iron Man for the movie so much more exciting. The book also offers a section for villain and storyboards. One of my favourite chaptors besides the one showing the Iron Man is the one that shows off the design of Tony's villa in detail. There is a lot of concept art that was commented by the designers explaining their decisions, not just according the house, but also related to the garage that Tony spends most of his free time in to build his inventions.

I'm a collector of movie/tv concept 'Art of' books, and the Art of Iron Man is a classic example of a great one. If that's a class of artwork that's interesting for you, I'd highly recommend it.

Great Art Of the Moviemaking Book,

This review is from: Iron Man: The Art of Iron Man, the Movie (Hardcover)
Despite the scarce availability, I'm happy to be able to get my hands on one copy. This book is flat out awesome. What do you expect most when you purchase an art book. Of course, lots of artworks. This book got plenty of them. Beginning the required background on Iron Man, it quickly leaps into the stunning and elaborate design works that are just too great to miss. Readers are also treated with the evolution of the designs, what makes and does not make the cut, and even the alternative promotional poster designs.I wish the Art of Spider-Man movie books and the Dark Knight art book would be as beautiful as this. But fingers crossed that they are going to churn out more books with this quality. |
