Pretty Awful,

There hasn't been a game in quite some time that I thought was terrible, pretty much across the board, but 'Iron Man' managed to hit it.
From terribly repetitive levels with re-spawning enemies, to it unnatural flight controls and a bad targeting system; 'Iron Man' manages to fail at damn-near everything it tries to do. This is the best-example of every criticism of a "movie game" I've ever seen. Sure, each level in the 'Iron Man' world is huge and gives a good impression of NOT being in a fish-bowl like some other games do. At the same time however, the graphics to that world are flat-out disgusting. In my opinion, for what is supposed to be a next-gen game, 'Iron Man' may be the worst-looking yet. The ability to upgrade your armor is a nice new spin, but, unfortunately, just can't overcome the fact that everything else is going so completely wrong. Even the voice acting is lousy. Robert Downey Jr and Terrance Howard reprise their film roles and you can almost hear the indifference (or distain) in their voices. It's almost as if they realize how bad this is and want to get out as fast as possible. To summarize ... the movie is absolutely terrific and gets my highest praise and recommendation. Take whatever you would have spent on the game and go see the movie again. For the REALLY curious, the (equally bad)demo is available on both xBox Live and The Playstation Network for free. Don't let this waste of a game ruin the film's experience for you by buying it ...

I rented Iron Man and gave it a test run, since the sticker price seemed a little steep. After playing for a few hours, I found myself wondering how a bug-ridden game like this ever got past beta testing.
I've listed the top offending errors below: (1) Environmental errors: There was a section in the first level where I moved behind a fence. I came to the end of the fence but couldn't move past it, even though nothing was blocking my path. I had to loop all the way back and go around. This is a pretty basic error, and yet quality testing missed it - not a good sign. (2) Enemy detection errors: I was fighting a slew of enemies on the second level and before I could advance further, I had to eliminate all the ground troops. There was one left on my radar and I flew down to find he was....under the concrete. Yes, this enemy somehow fell UNDER THE CONCRETE. I had to reset and start the level all over again. (3) Poor targeting system: The only way I could shoot a target is if the crosshairs were centered on an enemy at that specific moment. That means if Iron Man was running, flying, or dodging, it's pretty likely that my laser blasts or missiles would miss the target. (4) Hyper-sensitive flight system: The flight controls operate on a hair trigger. If I pressed the hover button too hard, Iron Man shot straight up. If I pressed the hover button too lightly, he dropped like a stone. When I hit the flight button, Iron Man shot forward at Ludicrous Speed - and I couldn't slow down. At all. In a nutshell, I spent most of my game time flying around at breakneck speed with little control, trying not to slam into buildings, attempting to hit multiple enemies with a poor weapons system, while trying to break a time limit. There's absolutely no justification to pay the asking price for this game. We, as video game consumers, deserve better.

I have had it with this game. I bought it to have fun and just getting started is a pain in the neck. Every time I open the game and try to continue gameplay, it resets to the beginning. I know it's because I don't meet the time objectives, but give me a break. This was supposed to be fun. It's not. My copy will be on eBay later today.

The Iron Man game is yet another movie based video game gone bad, the graphics look like PS2, the voice acting is fair, but nothing you'd remember, the game might make you sick the flying is unnatural as it would be to any normal person, the fighting even on hard is repetivtive and poorly done. the upgrade system is the best part of this game getting new and improved weapons just wish i wanted to use them, don't waste your money, rent it and then return it and keep playing GTA IV

After reading other people's reviews of this game, I had pretty low expectations. The first time I played it, I was horrified. I honestly couldn't believe how BAD the first level was. I mean, this is probably the reason most people never played it more than once or twice. The next level was much better, but still not great. The graphics were pretty good, but Iron Man seemed hard to control. Nevertheless, I decided to play it for an hour or so each day and see if the game would be any fun once I got past the rather steep learning curve. To my surprise, once I got the hang of it, the game was a blast. I've been playing it every day for the past couple of weeks, and now I just can't get enough of it. I would have given it a five-star rating were it not for the occasional frame rate drops that plague certain parts of the game. Furthermore, it was hard to overlook that weak first level. I mean the Mark I suit is total joke. It's just terrible. They really should have spent a little more time designing it because first impressions are pretty important, and they blew it in that area. Overall, if you're willing to spend the time to learn it, I would highly recommend this game.

I relented from buying this game until I could get a good deal, since I read these reviews and they weren't good. Here's my opinion -
The games controls are tough to get a firm grasp on. I don't see this as a negative, though, I see it as a positive. Once you get a grasp of what you're doing, you really feel like Iron Man. The targetting doesn't suck, you have to hold down the weapons button and get the targeting reticle close to the target; Iron Man will lock on and do some damage. Everything from the movie is here and then some. You can catch missles mid air and throw them at the enemy. You can grab helicopters, rip their tails off and watch them crash. You can jump onto tanks and rip the turrets off. For Iron Man's weapons, he has repulsors(hand weapons), missles(from gauntlets:these get really fun when you get guided missles!), and Uni beam (blast from chest). Uni beam needs to be charged and can be fun to use, but it really is so much easier to rely on repulsors + missles since they can be used together. One big hats of to the programmers for giving the ability to divert energy to specific abilities to increase their effectiveness. Need to catch up to some enemy jets? Divert energy to thrusters and stomp on em. Alot of enemys incoming? Divert energy to weapons to increase their power and minimize the amount of time shooting at them. Getting pummeled? Divert energy to life support to increase HP. This was a very well planned feature. Graphics weren't bad but they could've done better on character faces. They did give Gwyneth(Pepper) a boob job so that was cool. There is a feature that unlocks as you play the game called "One Man Army" which you have to kill 80 enemies in 10 minutes. It is in about 6 waves and if you complete each wave you are awarded with a new Iron Man armor. You can get armors from the original comics armor to the Hulkbuster Armor, which all have specific stat bonuses. I spent most of the time in the Classic Armor, which was my fav. No, it wasn't all positive though. Some objectives were kinda confusing towards the end and the game, as a whole, was short. I unlocked all the armors and beat the game in one day (btw, you get Iron Man's "Ultimate Armor" for beating the game). So I can understand not wanting to shell out $60 bucks for this game, but I was happy to spend $20 on it.

Whenever there's a big budget movie on the horizon, especially one adapted from a comic book, you can almost always bet on a video game tie-in being somewhere in the distance as well. Well, here's Iron Man, and yes, it is nothing else but another lame cash-in attempt that fails to do its comic and movie counterparts any kind of justice. Playing as 'ol shellhead, you take down wave after wave of baddies, with an occasional boss battle thrown in now and then for good measure. Naturally, what kills Iron Man is the fact that the game as a whole is a tedious bore. You have objectives, you take down the bad guys, etc, etc. The whole game is just so repetitive that it pretty much kills anything good about it. Combine this with some frustrating controls and disappointing graphics (and some just plain awful cut-scenes), and you get what we have here. There are some good points to be found, including the fact that the moments of flying around are pretty okay, there's unlockable extra armors, and film stars Robert Downey Jr. and Terrance Howard provide their own voices as well. All in all, whether you are a fan of the comic or the film, the Iron Man video game may be worth a look, but in the end, the game is best left on the shelf.

Product was not as pictured which made me supicious. The game box was not the usual ps3 box size or format; it was just a standard dvd box with different graphics than the official product. There was no manual or documentation of any kind. The game played just fine but did not provide any of the usual trophies or achievements. I suspect the game disc is a bootleg or otherwise illegal copy. I guess you get what you pay for.

I love video games, even the repetitive ones that offer little variety in gameplay, but still make it fun. I'll give any game that interests me a chance, even if it doesn't thrill me right at the start. Iron Man for the PS3 is the only game to date that made me abandon that principle after just 20 minutes or so of the WORST gaming experience that ever sullied my television screen. I'd normally try a game for a longer period of time to get a better insight into it, but so bad was the experience of this game that I couldn't stomach it for a prolonged period. In the first level when controlling the Mark I Iron Man Armor, I had to reset the game halfway through because Iron Man, one of the most powerful Marvel heroes ever, got stuck between a wooden fence and a mound of dirt, unable to shake himself loose. After circumventing this inescapable environmental trap, I finally got to play in the more advanced Mark II Armor, flying and shooting down enemy choppers and tanks in a large city level. I was really hoping the first level with the inferior Mark I Armor was going to be the only example of crap gameplay in Iron Man... I couldn't have been more wrong. The movement and flight controls for Iron Man were apparently designed by a drunken monkey, since hovering in place and shooting down flying enemies requires you pressing the hover button just lightly enough to stay in place. Press too hard in the slightest and you go shooting up higher into the air, press too lightly and you'll plummet back down to earth. It's basically impossible to stay stationary in midair, let alone fly around in the air and get a decent lock on your enemies who continually fly towards and then past you, forcing you to change direction constantly and struggling not to collide with any nearby buildings as you chase down pesky helicopters. Even the ground combat is lame and awkward. Iron Man throws punches at human enemies and tanks as if he were made of stiff wood, and the game's hit detection is pretty bad as well. Even the cooler touches of combat, like tearing off the tops of tanks and the tails of helicopters, get old quickly. This game and others like it would have been better if the flying and combat controls were more like the ones in the Zone of the Enders games. As bad as the gameplay is, the graphics are just as horrible. The environments, while large and roomy, are bland and uninteresting. The enemies were boring and blocky. Only Iron Man himself looked appropriately polished and shiny, but that's only one minor positive amongst an ocean of negatives. Fortunately I only rented this game and then returned it within an hour of deciding never to play it again, but I still mourn the $15 I lost to that rental. Don't make the same mistake I made because even renting the game is a total waste. Apparently the videogame for Iron Man 2 wasn't any better according to other reviews, so stay away from both games. I for one won't even bother with the second game. The best example of the ongoing trend of great movies making lousy games.
