Any recording I have ever heard by Tommy Peoples is brilliant, and this is no exception. Different from "The High Part of the Road", his previous album, in terms of style and tune selection, this one is yet another classic, which demonstrates his immense musical talent, which is rooted in the rich fiddle tradition of Donegal, in the north-west of Ireland. And he has chosen a guitar-player from nearby Derry to accompany him. Peoples' virtuosity is reflected in the selection of tunes from various wider sources, and he plays them all as if they are his own!

If you love Irish music, this is IT!,

Tommy Peoples is a master of Irish tradtional music. His unique approach to fiddling embraces both northern (Donegal) stylings and western (Clare) influences; but the combination is entirely his own. The Iron Man is among the finest of his recordings to date. Here, you can sample a number of different dance forms (the title track is a splendid example of the strathspey) as well as tunes associated with such past masters as fiddler Ed Reavy and accordionist Sonny Brogan. The playing is impeccable, as are the settings: this is the way Irish music OUGHT to sound. 'Nuff said.

This is a truly beautiful recording by one of Ireland's best known fiddlers. It's not as fiery as some of his other recordings (ie, with Bothy Band or his Comhaltas LP); instead it is lyrical and flowing and fresh as a spring's day. Daithi Sproule's accompaniment is understated but masterful.

If I had to choose a favorite Tommy Peoples album, this one would be it. The bottom line is that this guy is an amazing talent, my favorite on the fiddle by far, and I believe that anyone who likes Irish tradtional music even just a little bit will love this recording.
