Amazon.com Product Description

The IronKey 2 GB secure hardware-encrypted flash drive protects your data, online passwords, and Internet privacy with hardware-based encryption. Now you can safely carry your digital files with you wherever you go and surf the Web privately through almost any network--even across unsecured wireless hotspots. Furthermore, the IronKey is optimized for speed and designed to be waterproof and tamperproof. The IronKey Cryptochip uses hardware-based encryption, which is faster, more secure, and easier to use (no software or drivers to install) than software-based encryption.

Although it employs advanced military-grade security, it is a cinch to use and requires only a password to unlock it. Manage all of your online accounts and passwords in one place with direct access and protection against keystroke-logging spyware and other online threats. If Cryptochip detects any physical tampering by a thief or a hacker, it will self-destruct. And if your IronKey is ever lost or stolen, you can easily restore your lost data and passwords to a new IronKey.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I expected, January 8, 2009

Hot Damn (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: IronKey Personal 2 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Personal Computers)
My security concern is primarily that I tend to lose things. Thus I wanted excellent protection against a random person finding my flash drive. I feel confident that ironkey provides that.

I don't use it on any computers that might have keyboard password sniffers, though I see how a virtual keyboard might be a good idea. I don't really know much about security so I can't critique their malware protection.

I considered buying a cheap flash drive and installing truecrypt, but decided against it. I wasn't prepared to deal with a fussy solution that may require tweaking for each computer I use; I wanted something that works easily and reliably.

As of december 2008, you still need to initialize your ironkey on a windows computer. Once you've done that, it runs on Mac and Linux perfectly.

My only complaint is that the cap isn't attached at all to the body of the device, nor does the cap have a landyard hole so it might be secured. If the cap is lost, all that fancy waterproofing is shot. Here's hoping I manage to hold on to mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Expecting, March 22, 2008
This review is from: IronKey Personal 2 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (Personal Computers)
I was more than pleased with the Ironkey. I work in legal investigations and I feel very comfortable transporting files back and forth from my office to use on any computer I come across. I downloaded OpenOffice in case the computer I use doesn't have MS Word and and I THINK I can download my MS OFFICE onto the key but haven't experimented yet.

The secured web access has been fantastic although I do notice a slight slowdown on the loading of web pages...not a big deal. The only drawback is occasionally opening up Google in french...one of the drawbacks of the secured network is that the sites you are on think you're logging in from another country.

The password saving feature is awesome and its good to finally have a place to have all my passwords backed up.

Sure you can have a basic, plain old flash drive...but why?
