I have been searching for a solution to my need for security of very large number of confidential files, that I really need to carry with me much of the time. Iomega Jazz and then Zip worked very well, but they keep changing hardward and don't update the software, and I am tired of buying all new portable drives for all my computers.
But this product is great, and it has the convenience of a flash drive, th security of a really good, open source encryption program, and good, simple, basic software for dealing with it all. Plus a very good web site for storing and changing passwords and security information. This is a great, reliable, and reasonably priced solution. I am 100% happy!

The Ironkey works exactly as described by the companies video. This small creation has simplified my life if for nothing else by securing and organizing all the passwords one gathers over time. It's simple, secure and reliable.

First time I've done a review here but wanted to put a good word in for this product. I bought this to secure my passwords and other important files that I need to carry around. It has worked without a hitch and lives up to all of the promises on the Ironkey web site. (Well, I haven't tested the self destruct feature fortunately.) The secure sessions service is very cool and the fact that you don't need admin rights on the client computer is a big plus. I considered just using something like TrueCrypt for securing my files but it doesn't provide the security of hardware encryption. Highly recommended!

Excellent, Secure flash drive,
I just bought this about 3 weeks ago.
Love: 1. password management -- stores logins (user ids and passwords) for all the sites you visit 2. Security -- The thing will self destruct if someone tries to log in incorrectly more than ten times 3. Secure web surfing -- Can surf anonymously. People can't track where you visit online. Also will bypass filters. Showed that feature to our IT guy... he was impressed and appalled at the same time... Dislike: 1. Limited to Firefox 2.0 as your browser. If you upgrade to to Firefox 3.0 you lose password management 2. Secure web surfing is REALLY slow. I'm still playing with it, but so far, really like it

Lives up to it's reputation!,

Fantastic little device. Military-grade encryption, impact & water-resistant, locks your sensitive data as securely as possible, and if it's lost or stolen... no worries! It will self-destruct on tampering. The software that comes with it also has some nice features, such as secure online backup of your drive contents (to restore in the event it's lost or stolen) and website password caching. Walks you through the process, very intuitive and easy to use.
**Warning: don't just casually plug this in to any computer when you first receive it. Make sure you have enought time to perform the entire setup (10-15 mins) and that your PC is virus-free --preferably your primary home PC. The first time you plug it in, the security setup interface auto-launches, and you have no choice but to complete it right then and there.

Now I bought this about 2 years ago and am just reviewing it now. I use this for all data that I deem has a need for the best security. It updates easily and works on both my Windows-7 and Linux Operating Systems, which happen to be on the same dual-boot laptop. I really like the fact that it has good physical security, so that if the container is compromised in any way, the data is destroyed. This negates attempts to remove the chip to get at the data using another device.
I highly recommend this as well as use of a free program called "True Crypt". (Crank up your favorite search engine and look for "True Crypt") Using this on an Ironkey gives you the best security available IMHO. >^..^<

Ironkey 1 G,

I have a 1 Gig and a 4 Gig. I use them everyday whenever I go on the internet and use the security features and the Firefox browser. I would rate it with five stars. The only problems I have had was whenever you are asked to update the version, I was not very happy with the Ver 3. It changed the way I used things and I could not us the password manager to sign onto the passworded sites. I later learned they did not recommend that upgrade at that time, but it prompted me and allowed me to update to that version (did this on my 1 Gig). Today when I was trying to update my 4 Gig thumb drive as they recommended (since it was still in the Ver 1, and I wanted to refresh it with a lower version), it stopped working and I could not log into it again. I sent a message to customer support, but I am afraid it is fried. I got a great deal of use out of it and will miss it greatly. It is an expensive error on their part if it is a programming issue.
A security feature which is very good to have unless you use many passwords and forgot which one you used for the thumb drive is the one where the contents gets erased if there are 10 attempts in a row with the wrong password (I got up to number 9 and just survived that one on an occasion). With that in mind, you have to be very careful not to log in 10 times in a row with the wrong password. It would then become a paperweight. If someone got a hold of it, I would trust it would self destruct if they tried to hack into it. I think I will always own one of these... they are worth it.

I have had my 1GB IronKey for several years now and am very pleased. If I every needed another flash drive IronKey would again be my choice.
This is a very solidly constructed flash drive with excellent encryption and security measures that go well beyond what the average consumer needs. Shortly after I purchased my first IronKey I was experiencing a problem with it and IronKey promptly replaced it at no charge. IronKey's support website delivers results when help is needed.

Excellent product, works exactly as described,

We've installed several of these drives to hold secure data. The setup was simple, users have found them easy to operate and straight forward. We don't use the browser that comes with it, but like the idea.
Previously we used Kingston DataTraveler Elite. We had to replace some though as those drives gave us some issues - files became locked, etc. We tried these IronKey drives because it's the only other drive on the market that is entirely secure, leaving security not dependent on the user, but on the device. Overall, we are very pleased with these units and would buy more in the future. |
