I bought this as New Year's gift to myself last year (2010). My son put it together for me in about 2-3 hours. It does need batteries. It's been great!! I use it about everyday. It's in my family room in front of the TV so it gets used by everyone. It has adjustable tension for a greater workout or you can go distance on it. I like the handles which have sensors to pick up your heart rate to hit the optimal range for calorie burn. This elliptical has become "furniture" in our home and it's used all the time. I'm very happy with it.
