An unfortunately over looked classic.,

This review is from: Ironbrand (Mass Market Paperback)
This is easily one of my all time favorite series. The other books in this series include Grey Mantle and King's Bane. The story follows three brothers: Colberane, Ordred and Staver; who seek to reclaim the kingdom stolen from thier ancestors. They are the three brothers spoken of in an ancient prophecy and upon the death of thier father, they begin thier quest. Upon the way they are aided by the Dark Prophet who remains a mysterious aid to them, pointing them in the right directions. You see the brothers mature and grow as they try to lead the men who have waited for thier comming for generations against the Cairnlord and his minions. Grey Mantle, the next in the series is actually a prequel to Ironbrand, and tells the tale of Ambescand, founder of the old kingdom that was overthrown and restored by the brothers. King's Bane takes place several generations after Ironbrand and is the story of the last members in the line of the three brothers. The new kingdom the brothers founded has fallen upon hard times and the only one to lead the people is a crippled king, unable to lead his men to battle.

Unique Novel,

I found this book (series) back in the early 80's. As the previous reviewer mentions, this book is an unknown gem! It holds up well with other more well known fantasy series.
Although not as complex in structure as the Lord of the Rings or the Shannara series by Terry Brooks, it holds it's own on how original the story line is by not copying the format of the above mentioned books. This is an excellent book, and I would heartly recomend it to anyone even if they are not into fantasy novels. |
