4.0 out of 5 stars Semi-boring; however, an extremely informative Alanis bio.
I feel that people are missing the reason that Mr. Grills included other artists stories in "Ironic." It was clearly an attempt to show Alanis' musical influences. I wish that Barry Grills would have put a little more time and heart into this book. I saw many typing errors, which is always a sign of a speedy deadline. I hate to see fans who feel that they...

1.0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE
I absolutely LOVE Alanis. But this book is HORRIBLE. It has HARDLY anything about her. He just babbles on about Joni Mitchell and Bjork and people like that! The word Alanis is mentioned like 2 times in the whole book. The pics are kool, but the words are stupid. Don't bother buying this because you won't hear anything about alanis.

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative or just inaccurate?, April 20, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironic: Alanis Morissette - The Story (Paperback)
There are lot's of new thing that I hadn't known before, but this guy ( author) is sooo repetivitve! He used the word Irony about 20 times on the first 3 pages! Every sentence has 'Irony" in it! I almost shot myself the 10 time I saw that word! And most of the book isn't even about Alanis! There's pages on Jim Morisson, Tori Amos, Sheryl Crow, etc. I mean, a few pages on those artists, and explainging their realtionship to Alanis is fine, but this guy goes in to so much detail and irrelevant facts which don't even add to the story of Alanis Morissette. I truly don't believe that the author knows what he is saying. In one sentence he critisizes Alanis, and in the next sentence, he has a totally different opinion! In addition, how could you possibly write an entire book without even a single interview with Alanis? I remember stumbling upon something that he said about Alanis' past that was inaccurate. I know that it was false information because Alanis said something totally different out of her own mouth. From all we know, he could have developed 200 pages of facts on Alanis from his own head! He got some facts from the internet which aren't as solid as most people would like. Sorry, I just think that someone else could have done a mcuh better job on this book. With more info. on her family , her past, about the future, rather than NAR artists! Just my opinion, no offense to anyone who thinks otherwise :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Another Quick Study, September 19, 2001
This review is from: Ironic: Alanis Morissette - The Story (Paperback)
Essentially that title sums it up. The problem with most of these kinds of books is they cover every facet of the performer's life but they are too close in time and too enthusiastic to be definitive on the career of someone who is clearly talented and articulate but has a long way to go to develop to the level of those whom we will remember a hundred years on. This is a source on a life in progress not anywhere near a final word and analysis.
This review will serve as well for the second edition when it is listed here.

I wish that Barry Grills would have put a little more time and heart into this book. I saw many typing errors, which is always a sign of a speedy deadline. I hate to see fans who feel that they were robbed by purchasing this book. It contains beautiful photography, an extensive discography, and an up-to-date account of her life and musical career. If you don't go into this book with high expectations, then I feel that you will gain some great insight into the greatest living musical artist.

3.0 out of 5 stars SO MANY PAGES-SO LITTLE INFO!, May 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironic: Alanis Morissette - The Story (Paperback)
Well, this book does tell her life in a way. It is okay, but too long! Basically, all it does is talk about how "angry young females" came along and you would think it is a whole book on some of the people the book talks about other than Alanis. I mean, do we really need to know about Bjork, Joni Mitchell, or Tori Amos when we want Alanis? It does have a nice discography section. But I just couldn't even get past the first five pages. Not to mention, the author (Barry Grills) uses hard-to-understand words. Although I do have to say that if you want to know every little teeny tiny thing about her, this book is good. Yeah, it's just average. I recommend the CD-size book.

1.0 out of 5 stars AWFUL! AWFUL! I was robbed!, March 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironic: Alanis Morissette - The Story (Paperback)
Barry Grills worked way to hard of this un-researched book! The only thing worth saying is the cover, the rest is trash...I would normally give it a 2 for effort, but Amazon is selling it which is a point down for them. Don't waste your money, just look and run away now! If your going to get an Alanis book, I reccommend Alanis Morissette: A Biography by Paul Cantin. Anything about Alanis and the author is Paul Cantin, is worth buying.

2.0 out of 5 stars the review of IRONIC, March 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironic: Alanis Morissette - The Story (Paperback)
Normally, I wouldn't give any book on alanis a bad review, but i JUST couldn't help myself. I think that this book wasn't really about alanis. It had a lot of facts that weren,t 100% accurate. (I think he got these on the internet) It talked about lots of boring facts in it and I couldn't bring myself to read past the first few chapters! Sorry, barry grills, I think your book isn't very interestiong, intreguing or informative. Even so, I collect Alanis stuff and this book is a necessity for my collection. Thanks for reading, E.J. :)

1.0 out of 5 stars not good, December 31, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironic: Alanis Morissette - The Story (Paperback)
I stopped in the middle because it got so damn boreing. All the author talked about was Jim Morrison. The contence of the book was pretty lame. I would say the best part of the book was the picture on the cover. ( If you were thinking about buying this book, I wouldn't recomend it! ) , And why I gave it a =2, is because I gave an effort score.
