Do Not Purchase This Book,

This review is from: Ironman 70.3: Training for the Middle Distance (Ironman Edition) (Paperback)
As much as it pains me to say this (I'm a fan of other books in the Ironman sponsored/endorsed/branded series) do not purchase this book. It appears to be a translation of a European book, but the translation was not done well. For example the distanes referred to in the book are often incorrect such as referring to a 14.1 mile run. The book contains no information beyond mere platitudes and will be of little use to anyone who has any triathlon experience. If you are looking for a useful book on the topic of 70.3, I would check out Tom Rodger's book -- The Perfect Distance: Training for Long Course Triathlons.

Ironman 70.3,

Very helpful information for your first half ironman. I have done 2 now and have used the book to help me train through both of them. I would definitely encourage the purchase of this book!

I am in complete agreement with the other reviewer. This book is hilarious. The issues are likely due to poor translating. Did anyone proofread this thing for proper syntax and conceptual correctness? Ironically the notes say that Ash is known for his 'famously clear writing' but even his bio blurb is confusing and translated poorly. Im disappointed because i had high hopes for this book. There are short course guides and long course guides but i havent found a great middle distance book. If the publisher decides to comb over this thing to make it sensical and then reprints it ill be the first to reorder! The bottom line is that this book is not usable/readable in its current form and anyone looking for a middle distance training guide should look elsewhere. |
