The Viper is stacked under the hood as well, with a quiet belt-drive system, a large 20-pound flywheel, and a friction-free magnetic resistance system, which merge to provide smooth, maintenance-free operation. And as with the best exercise bikes, the Viper is built with safety in mind, with dual sets of EKG grips--one set mounted to the seat frame and the other to the console--to help you monitor your heart rate at all times. Then, once your workout is over, the bike offers a recovery function that determines your fitness level by monitoring your heart rate's response and providing you with a score (very poor, poor, fair, average, good, and excellent).
Additional features include the ability to store up to four user profiles with info on gender, age, height, and weight; remote handlebar-mounted tension controls; 16 resistance levels; a secure locking seat adjustment system with a silky smooth aluminum slide rail; oversized, self-balancing foot pedals with adjustable straps; front transport wheels for easy storage; a commercial-quality heavy-gauge steel frame; and a water bottle holder to help keep you hydrated. The Viper offers a 300-pound weight capacity, measures 24 by 50 by 55 inches (W x H x D), and weighs 149 pounds.

About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Underwhelmed!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ironman Viper Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports)
I thought IronMan products were supposed to be high quality, but this bike broke the first time I used it. Something started "knocking" inside the casing every time I pedaled. Also, I agree with the other review. The pulse monitor grossly underestimates your heart rate, no matter how long you leave your hands on the sensors. The cross-over design of the viper seems great in theory, but I found the bike to be very uncomfortable and my knees hurt after my workout. Having said that, this bike is very quiet and easy to assemble. All the parts were included. I have to ship this back to Amazon, which is a big hassle because I have to take it apart and try and fit it back into the box it was shipped in. I don't recommend buying a bike online unless you have used it before.

My Twelve Thumbs no Handicap,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ironman Viper Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports)
Even for a guy who if he had two more thumbs would have twelve of them found no difficulty in assembling this fine piece of work.
I had read with some trepidation about some horrors a few purchasers have had putting thier Ironman Viper Recumbent Exercise Bike (and other models) together. I also read those of persons who had no trouble. Not a big gambler myself, I did a lot of fanny scratching before I ordered what I felt (if true) would be an economic coup in the purchase of a device I considered perfect for a person of my age, physical restrictions and overall condition. Not to mention having it fit into rather restricted available floor space. The shipment arrived with little evidence of shipping abuse. I took advantage of the free shipping offer. The carrier selected was very courteous and called ahead to make sure I would be here to accept delivery. He dropped it just inside my single story front door. We sat it on one of my furniture dollies to allow me to move it about while unpacking and assembling. To be honest, a period of some four hours elapsed from the time I began opening the single heavy duty cardboard box until I attached the final piece and took it for a test ride. During this period, I laid out every piece of the "puzzle" and checked for missing parts. (I actually had an extra screw. I double/triple checked the inventory list on parts counts to be sure some piece was not going to eventually fly off and wound someone somewhere on one of my imaginary cross country's) I double read the instructions while pausing occasionally for periodic joint stretching and liquid refreshments while envisioning the assembly in my head. (it used to be beer but now I'm doing it with iced tea) I don't do well sitting and rolling around on the floor either, and that chewed into some of the time. (part of my physical kabooberations I'm hoping to mitigate with this thing) After rounding up back up tools (didn't need any as everything required was included with the shipment) I began assembly. Like I said, overall unpacking, study and assembly took this 67 year old kid about four hours. I didn't want this project to fall into any one of my other "don't do today what you can put off until tomorrow" projects. How do I rate it? I'll have to give it a five star! It met my qualifications to be rated that from a monetary outlay standpoint. No other machine I considered had the overall construction features, was as sturdily build and aesthetically pleasing as this machine. For the price, no other could touch it. The Ironman Viper Recumbent Exercise Bike also met and exceeded my expectation for function. It is very comfortable (and I am a very big man) as the seat adjustments accommodate me and my wife very well.(not at the same time, silly!) The preprogramed exercise plans provide variation and challenge. The manual and programmable features are also great. I love the dual positions of the pulse monitor receivers, the large digital display, and the extra wide pedals. It is quiet! I have never seen an exercise machine that is so quiet. As big as I am, there is no stress related complaints coming from the machine and it's expected exercising functions are virtually soundless. This thing operates buttery smooth. The very last thing I did reletive to the assembly was to dispose of the shipping box and packing. I did heed the advice that one should hang on to these things "Just in Case..." one needed to send the unit back. In my case, it was not neccessary and I did manage to cut up the box and foam packing and get it to fit into one trash pickup can. Finally, I think I have found the cure for my lack of exercise. I am physically disabled and find the machine attractive in appearance, sized and sturdy, fully functional to accomodate my needs. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and feel that it is becoming a part of my daily routine. My words of advice? If you are looking for a solidly constructed, attractive piece of exercise furniture (that you'll use) at an affordable price when compared to machines of equal function, Buy this one. I think you'll agree it was a wise choice.
