Book Description

November 15, 2007
Over the past eighteen months Russell Brand has built up a unique fan club through the sports section of the Guardian. Each week Brand writes a sharply observed and wickedly funny column about his first love -- football. Russell is 'West Ham till I die'. He's a season ticket holder and he's been going to Upton Park since he was a kid. He's also a huge England fan too, although after England lost to Portugal on penalties (again), he wanted a divorce. In this sharp and stylish book Russell guides us through one of the most dramatic footballing years in recent memory. We start with West Ham reaching the FA Cup Final for the first time in twenty-five years and end with their 1-0 win at Manchester United on the last day of the season, which kept them in the Premiership against all the odds. Along the way Russell turns his wit on Sven ('I bet he wears pants in the bath'), the WAGS, football chants, Jose Mourinho ('he's like the littlest hobo - he does terrific work then clears off leaving John Terry with a frog in his throat cos "there's a voice that keeps on calling him"'), and the night he slept next to David Beckham.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'The most talented stand-up comedian to emerge in Britain this decade, Brand combines Eddie Izzard's rare ability to carry a whole crowd along on an audacious flight of comic fancy with the carnal magnetism of the young George Best. Audiences leave a Brand performance not just entertained but actively debauched by his catalogue of erotic misadventure.' -- Daily Telegraph

5.0 out of 5 stars Russell Brand's look at life and football, November 5, 2008

This review is from: Irons in the Fire (Hardcover)
I love the wit and intellect of Russell Brand! This book is a compilation of his weekly articles from The Guardian newspaper generally about football (soccer) and his team West Ham United (England's Premier League). These aren't especially detailed as to the sport but his philosophical look at life. He has a wide and extensive vocabulary. I enjoy him. I saw him on The Paul O'Grady show (UK) from Oct 2008, and the host said he loved Russell's columns in The Guardian and how he played with words. He also said he needed a dictionary to help him get through the column. I agree - I too keep a dictionary handy. I am learning new words and enjoying every minute of it. Give it a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Russell, May 13, 2009
This review is from: Irons in the Fire (Hardcover)
Being American I don't much understand English football however I'm learning and Russell brand is an excellent teacher! His love and devotion to his team, West Ham, is apparent, you'd never know he was such a celebrity from reading his regular articles in the Guardian or from this book. He's witty and has a voracious play with words. Brand is intelligent-bordering on lunacy at times. I'd highly recommend reading this book whether a fan of West Ham or not. It is a must have/read for Russell Brand fans who are interested in finding out what really makes this fella tick.

The quality of the condition of the book was very good. The book itself is kinda lame but not the sellers fault:) Got to me when it was supposed to. I would buy from them again:)
