Book Description

Meghan Chase is finally getting used to being the Iron Queen, ruler of the Iron Fey. Her life may be strange, but with former Winter prince Ash by her side at last, she wouldn't have it any other way.

But when they travel to the Summer and Winter courts' gathering for Elysium, the oracle from Meghan's past returns with a dire prophecy: "What you carry will either unite the courts, or it will destroy them."

Now Meghan faces a devastating choice that may determine the future of all fey—and her and Ash's unborn child….

A novella from Julie Kagawa's bestselling Iron Fey series.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2.5 stars for me September 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ok, I'm not even sure if I want to leave my review with the other few who seem to love this novella. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me. I'm sure people will read my review and think I'm crazy, but we all don't have to agree. So here goes...

Iron's Prophecy was between an ok and a like for me. I was definitely disappointed. The story was totally pointless in my opinion. It just gave us a tiny peek at life after Iron Knight with a bunch of hogwash surrounding that. I guess it could be setting up for the next book in the series, The Lost Prince, but for me I would have been fine not reading it. It actually just frustrated me. I will say, I've just recently started this series and I've read all the books back to back. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more had I had some time in between books and felt like I was missing the characters like so many others.
The previous book, Iron Knight, was the best out of the whole series for me. Now that I look back, maybe the reason I liked it so much was because Meghan wasn't there to emasculate Ash. He actually made his own decisions and did what he wanted to do, not what he was told to do. Sorry, I love a guy who's willing to do anything for his woman, but he still needs to have some say and be able to put his foot down. In Iron's Prophecy I was wanting to beat my head against the wall at times. They're married in this book, but at times it didn't feel that way. I was questioning why it felt like she was treating Ash like one of her subjects. I don't think she got the memo on the whole EQUAL partners thing. I was so tired of "yes my queen," "anything you wish my queen" ... argh! Be a man and stand up for yourself. I'm all about powerful females, but please, PLEASE don't emasculate the male to make the female seem even more powerful. If he felt strongly about something, she basically dismissed it and was like "I'm the Iron Queen." Yada, yada, yada. Oh! That was another frustration of mine. At one point I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall. I was SICK of having to read "I am the Iron Queen" or anything pertaining to her being the Iron Queen. WE KNOW YOU'RE THE IRON QUEEN. At this point, if I were to develop Alzheimer's that would probably be the only thing I would remember. I mean the Winter Queen is referred to as Mab, the Summer King as Oberon, but Meghan is always referred to as the Iron Queen. We get it! Enough already! Can't we just use her name and leave it at that?

************SPOILERS***************

Irritation #1 - When Meghan... Oh! Excuse me. Let me start that over again. When the IRON QUEEN and Ash went to the Winter Elysium, she at first told him he wasn't allowed to start any fights. As they're walking through a crowd of Unseelie who seem to question their power she has a change of heart. Wasn't that nice of her! She basically is like "oh no, they can't think we're weak, Ash needs to be able to prove himself" and tells Ash to go ahead and start a fight. In my head I could hear Ash being like "Thank you my Iron Queen for allowing me to prove my manhood is still intact and I am indeed worthy to stand by your side." She was basically giving him permission to stand up for himself and prove he was still as powerful as before. And yes, I know he's her knight, BUT they're married now... he should have a voice and not follow her around like a lost puppy waiting to be told what to do.

#2 It really bothered me when Meghan found out she was pregnant and neither her nor Ash were happy about it. It should have been an exciting moment for the both of them, regardless of what happened with the oracle. I was irritated that Meghan questioned whether Ash wanted a baby or whether she even wanted one. Umm, well, let me see. You're married, in which case you're obviously having sexual relations... Yeah, you can get pregnant! No shocker there. I guess you should have been questioning all that BEFORE you actually got pregnant. If she had been on birth control or something, fine, understandable. But seriously, I was wanting a happy moment for them and was really disappointed by the way it went down.

Ok, I realize this is just a novella and I've written enough for a normal book. I could go n, but I'm going to stop myself now. 2.5 stars for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bridge into the Rest of the Saga October 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm so glad I picked up this novella before I started The Lost Prince. Not only is it a great little diversion back into the world of Ash, Meghan and Puck but it also gives you just enough background to get readers primed for the next part of the saga.

If you are a fan of The Iron Fey, this short read is a must. Once I started reading it, I was transported back into this wonderful world and I instantly remembered why I loved it so much. You won't be lost if you skip this gem, but there are a few interesting secrets revealed in the Iron Prophecy that will shed some light on what Ethan is in for in The Lost Prince. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally December 28, 2012

I am so glad that Julie decided to write this little extra for all us fans to have some closure on the whole Ash and Meaghan story. We knew they belonged together but we wanted proof and now we have it. I love that everyone is involved and that we get to see some new characters play important roles in Ash's quest to earn the right to be with his love. A fantastic end to an epic love story.
