Sensuous tale with a bit of 'Semper Fi',

This review is from: Irresistible (The Buchanans, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Walker is on a mission to find the lost love of a man who died in his platoon. All he has is a first name, and Ashley appears to be pretty common. To escape his meddlesome grandmother and family, he takes an apartment in a rough part of town, and constantly finds himself rescuing his neighbor, Elissa a single mom with a couple secrets of her own.
When grandma steps over the line (an on-going occurrence with grand dame Gloria Buchanan) and threatens Elissa to keep her away from her grandson, Walker confronts her and she drops to the floor, breaking her hip as she has a mild heart attack. Despite Walker's pleas that he will never be a part of the Buchanan restaurant empire, he steps up to the plate for the good of the family. Soon he has the employees, fearful of saying and doing the wrong thing in front of Gloria, happy as clams (kind of like in the movie "9 to 5"). Brother Reid has the dubious honor of hiring the round the clock nurse care, and since he has not changed much since "Delicious," you can imagine they will be busty. As Elissa reconciles with her own estranged family, the two realize that they have deeper feelings than they want to admit. Their chemistry flows off the page, and Walker is the daddy that her daughter Zoe never has had. Will the pain of their pasts and their sociological differences keep them apart? Will he ever locate the right Ashley? Mallery's second Buchanan sibling story is great and can stand on its own, but since there are so many inside references the previous novel, I recommend you read "Delicious" first. Soon to be followed up with Reid's story, "Sizzling," which is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Walker Buchanan of the famous restaurant Buchanan's has returned home from the Marines. Years ago Walker joined the military to escape personal tragedy, upset his Grandmother, and be in control of his own life. Now he is in limbo, he has found that he doesn't want to stay in the military as he feels he has lost his edge. But, returning home he has 1 last mission he must complete. He wants to find and deliver a letter and message from the young soldier who died taking a bullet that Walker feels was meant for him. Once he has done this he will work on what is next in his life. One thing he is sure about is that he doesn't need a woman in his life. He hasn't since he secretly lost his first love to breast cancer.
Elissa Towers is a single mother of 5 yr old Zoë, and doing all she can to support her daughter and keep her whereabouts secret from Zoë's father. She has also sworn off dating until Zoë turns 18, so she only has 13 more years to go. But, she can't help noticing that her hunky new neighbor definitely makes her thoughts not so impure. She is thankful when he changes her tire one morning and invites him to dinner. While Elissa and Walker plan to just be friends they are continually thrown together by neighbors and his family. Soon they are very friendly and listening to each others wishes and concerns, which also strengthens their bond, and starts to turn into more than just friends. When Walker's Grandmother threatens Elissa with being a gold digger and she shuts down her friendship with Walker and disappears for a few days he is devastated. Walker catches wind of the fact that the sudden disappearance might have been caused by his Grandmother and goes to confront her. His Grandmother has a heart attack and Walker winds up working as CEO for the Buchanan restaurant chain much to his unhappy surprise. At this same time Elissa has moved back into her apartment add after Walker makes a bit of peace with her things return to a strained normal. That is until Zoë's father suddenly shows up and threatens Elissa and even attacks her. As usual Mallery quickly draws you into the lives of the Buchanan clan and you are left wanting the next story. She also lets you catch up on the characters from the last books through interaction with the main characters in this book thus allowing the books to be stand alone or red in a series. I think she has scored again here with 2 strong characters.

Excellent story,

Second in the Buchanan family series.
A single mom with a five year old daughter, Elissa Towers has learned to be self-sufficient and not expect help from anyone. She foolishly ran away from home when she was 17, got pregnant and beat up by her boyfriend and paid hard for her life. She works hard too - besides being a waitress, Elissa designs jewelry and sells it at home parties in her spare time. So when she has difficulty with her car, she certainly doesn't expect new neighbor Walker Buchanan to help her out. Walker, an ex-Marine from a family who owns several successful restaurants, is a loner at loose ends. He suffers awful guilt for a tragedy when he was eighteen. Elissa slowly accepts Walker's help and Walker slowly allows himself to interact with Elissa and her daughter. This story packs an emotional punch. Neither character wanted involvement but couldn't help themselves from falling in love. Susan Mallery has a wonderful talent. I can't believe I missed the first Buchanan book, DELICIOUS. It's at the top of my "buy now" list.

Irresistible is just that.......Irresistible and Delicious; a great addition to the series.,

This review is from: Irresistible (The Buchanans, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Susan Mallery has done it again as far as writing an incredible series about the Seattle Buchanan family. Her second in the series (Delicious being the first), IRRESISTIBLE is just that. It's full of family issues, love, some danger, betrayal and includes short snippets about the Buchanan siblings. However, IRRESISTIBLE is Walker Buchanan's story.
Walker decides he must retire early from the Marine Corp. He's seen and been through way to much and he has a mission. His friend took a bullet for him and died with no family, no one to mourn with the exception of a young woman who he mentioned many times to Walker. Walker returns to Seattle and his family the the main purpose..... to find his friend's girlfriend and to deliver a letter to her. He is immediately thrust into two situations......the first being family duties to sit at the helm of the family corporation because his grandmother has to be hospitalized due to a heart attack and fall. The second; he moves into a neighborhood and meets three incredible people.....the beautiful Elissa, her daughter Zoe and Mrs. Ford who all reside in his building. Neither Walker nor Elissa are looking for love but the forces of nature bring them, their families and a horrible ex-boyfriend into the mix. Lots of emotion with a lots of intensity in this love story. This story is one I could not put down. Once I began Walker's journey, I read it immediately from cover to cover. Susan Mallery is a master storyteller and this series is such an entertaining one, one that will top the charts for the year and next year as well with additional books in the series.

IRRESISTIBLE? NOT REALLY,
By Bookish "trinity2u" (PENN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Irresistible (The Buchanans, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I picked this book up hoping for a entertaining summer read. Now that I read it, I really can't recommend it to anyone else. Not to buy anyway. I had high hopes for the book and it really could have met them if only the author could have stopped going on and on ( for about 5 chapters) with the idea that these two people were not attracted to one another all they did especially the women, was try to convince themselves that they did not have any feelings for the other. Elissa, was sooo annoying saying chapter after chapter " I don't need anyone in my life" " He is not right for me". She acted like some preteen or something. It just slowed the story down wayyyy too much for me and you knew from the start that they would end up in bed so why all the denial! For PETE SAKE, I can understand building on a story line but this was just a lot of whinning. After they got passed all the no I don't like her and no I don't like him, but I wonder what he looks like nude childishness the story did get much better. I would say if you really must read it, get if from the library.

Can Walker Find Love Again?,
By
This review is from: Irresistible (The Buchanans, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
We get more time with the Buchanans--Walker, the ex-marine, is our hero this time! yummy
Walker's back, he has left the Marines he's sick of being a warrior but he's on a mission he wants to find the woman the young soldier in his unit talked about said he was in love with her. Ben died and Walker wants to share his thoughts with someone who cared for the boy too. It's very important to him to find her. Besides Walker isn't sure how he'll fit back into civilian life. He moved into an apartment, in a slightly shabby neighborhood, and meets his neighbor, Elissa Towers, after hearing her try to loosen the lugnuts on her flat tire early one morning-she needs muscles to do it. She pays him back by making him a pie but after he bought her a new tire they make a bargain of her cooking a meal for him occasionally. Their neighbor Mrs Ford tries to be matchmaker though. Elissa's a Seattle native too but at 17 she runaway from home to L.A. she made it on her own for several years but found herself pregnant by a real loser. She gets back to Seattle with the hopes of her family finding her but it's been 5 years and it hasn't happened, she's a struggling single parent. Walker and Elissa form a friendship but fight the attraction the whole time-one of the goals on her parenting plan is to not have *sex* for 13 more years. Walker feels he has nothing to offer, he's a warrior, comes from a very dysfunctional family and as a 17 y.o. he didn't do what he thinks he should have. The sexual tension is so thick as a reader you can feel it. Elissa and Walker do fall in love even as they fight it. They do learn about family the hard way with situations in both families. Walker is a knight in shining armor throughout the book! It's wonderful to be back with the Buchanans, the happy times with Cal & Penny waiting for the birth of the baby, Dani's still healing from her divorce, the unfaithfulness of her ex-husband and learning she is a half-sister to her brothers and of course Reid's having his pick of women every night. Ms Mallery has added to the wonder story she created in DELICIOUS. She's only half way through the Buchanan family next is Reid's story SIZZLING there's an excerpt in IRRESISTIBLE. I can hardly wait

The best of the series!,

I swear, I could be president of the Susan Mallery Fan Club! I adore her books. I love them even more when they are series books (like Irresistible *wink*) because I think she does such a great job of keeping up with previous characters, while not spending too much time on their stories.
I have to say, I have not read the Buchanan books in order. I started with #3 (Reid and Lori, Sizzling) then read #1 (Penny and Cal, Delicious). But I have been looking forward to Walkers story because I think he is my favorite Buchanan sibling, he's got the military man thing going on, but he's also got something mysterious about him that just drew me in from the first mention. He may be one of my top romance heroes of all time. (I love Walker Buchanan!!) The basic premise of this book is Single Mom, Elissa Towers is raising five year old Zoe, working as a waitress and crafting jewelry on the side to get by. She has some baggage and dark secrets from her past, including having been a teenage runaway with no family. Walker is fresh out of the Marines (YUM!) and on a hunt to find the girlfriend of one of his fallen comrades. He has rented an apartment in a neighborhood where he knows no one in hopes to remain unattached and anonymous as he figures out what he wants to do next. What I Loved? * This series is fabulous at showing the inner workings of the family, something I have so far been disappointed with in the Fool's Gold series. * The characters, Mrs. Ford - the little old lady next door who is a surrogate family to Elissa and Zoe. Elissa's friends and coworkers. They are all great. Well developed and makes you feel like they might be your neighbors. * I really liked the runaway story line, I think it unfolded well and was pretty believable, something that I have read in other books and not cared for. What I Didn't Love? * Gloria Buchanan. She is the villain I love to hate :) * The narrator -- I felt like the characters had southern accents - which definitely is not true to Seattle. (But that is such a minor issue.) Over all? This has been my favorite book of this series, I loved it so much I would recommend it to anyone.

Have found that when I read a book and want to get more in series of the same author that when I go on Amazon and use the suppliers after reading their notations on the condition of the book that I have been happy with how fast the supply me with the product. I have been using them for quite some time and will continue to as am happy with the price, condition and how quickly I get the books. I generally read about a book a week and have found them to be the easiest to get what I want in good condition and fast since I work and don't have the time to go shopping for books in the stores that often. Thanks, for making it easy to continue doing what I enjoy which is reading.

This review is from: Irresistible (The Buchanans, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Irresistible by Susan Mallery is the 2nd novel of the Buchanan Family. This family owns three restaurants in the Seattle area with the mean evil grandmother at the helm. There are three sons Cal (from Delicious novel), Reid (ex-baseball player), Dani (divorced and 1/2 sister of the crew) and Walker (ex-marine). This novel tells the story of Walker who left the Marines because he saw too much. He moves in upstairs from Elissa a single mom with lost of secrets and goal not to have sex for 13 years. This novel has mystery, danger and healthy romance. Check out the whole series Delicious (#1) , Irresistible (#2), Sizzling (#3 Reid's story due out January 2007) and Tempting (# 4...Dani's story due out July 2007)
