Attorney Sasha McCandless is back in Irretrievably Broken!

The venerable law firm of Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson -- purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband -- when a photograph of the dead woman arrives, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused.

Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, so she's suspicious when her former firm asks her to represent Ellen's husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case and soon finds herself representing not one, but both, of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours jeopardize her relationship with Leo Connelly when he needs her most.

That's the least of Sasha's troubles, though, because what she doesn't know is that the real killer is waging a vendetta for a past case gone wrong. And there's one more lawyer on his list.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Amazon Top 100 Book (July 2012)
Amazon Legal Thriller and Mystery Series Best Seller

"The ingredients of the 'Sasha novels' have, by book 3, become essential staples that, I am sure, all her loyal readers have come to expect: a tight plot combining action and legal exposition; snappy but still realistic dialogue, and brilliantly flawed characters."  Whiskey Andati Book Review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good legal thriller July 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
"Irretrievably Broken" is a good title for this entry into Sasha McCandless's adventures as petite lawyer who kicks butt in and out of the courtroom. As we learn, along with a lot of other legalese that the author helpfully explains, it's a term for a divorce where the relationship is considered unsalvageable. That's the main theme of this book, which carries through the tightly-knit subplots. How do you make a relationship work? What destroys a marriage? In the case of the latter, it's a serial killer, but the story goes much deeper than that.

There's not a lot of mystery to this thriller, but the compelling plot carried me right along, and a great execution is 90% of the experience. I don't feel like the firm's motivations in "needing" to hire Sasha were ever clear to me, and the ending was somewhat abrupt, but I really loved the colorful cast of marvelously nuanced characters. I especially enjoyed the deftness with which Miller handled the leal aspects, which were authentic without being confusing--no small feat for a reader like me, whose entire knowledge of law is that there is something called habeus corpus (I think). Loved the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller #3 July 5, 2012
By dpappas
Format:Kindle Edition
Sasha is back and taking on cases that she has never handled before. When two female lawyers from Sasha's old law firm, Prescott & Talbott, are murdered and their husbands are accused of those murders, Sasha is asked by the firm to represent the husbands. Criminal law is something Sasha has no experience with but she still manages to bring the same spunkiness to court. Sasha isn't only stressed-out from work she is also dealing with problems in her relationship with Leo Connelly.

It was nice to see Sasha doing something new, and even unfamiliar to her. It was interesting to see a more vulnerable side to Sasha with her doubts about the criminal cases and her feelings about Leo. The suspense and twists in regards to the murders left me hooked on the book. The action at the end really had my heart racing (as I'm sure Sasha's was too). I found the end part about the relationship between Sasha and Leo to be cute and left me wanting to know what will happen with them next.

I can't wait for the next book in this series. This is definitely one of my favorite series' and Sasha (in all her Krav Maga, butt-kicking glory) is an intriguing, and fun to read about character.

This book started out with a lot of legalese but once it took off you couldn't help but root for Sasha. Great ending. Totally unexpected. Can't wait for the next one.
