4.0 out of 5 stars It is what it is, April 8, 2011
This review is from: Irwin Tools 11170 10-Inch by 40 Teeth Circular Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Let's call it what it is, this is an inexpensive blade. I have not used it for cross cuts because I doubt it will do a good job. The physical layout of the blade is designed for ripping. It's also not going to have the higher tolerances of a more costly blade. This in turn, makes the blade produce a higher volume of sound. I wear earplug when running any saw, because lower decibels over time have the same loss of hearing effect as higher disables for short times. I have lost too much of my ability to hear and don't need to lose any more.

For the price though, it is less than having my Freud and Gold Medal blades re-sharpened.

So for rough ripping, I don't see how you can beat it for the price.......

This review is from: Irwin Tools 11170 10-Inch by 40 Teeth Circular Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Ok. Granted, I bought this blade to go over the free shipping limit when I bought something small. So it ended up costing just a couple dollars versus the shipping cost without it.

I put it on my Craftsman 21833 table saw. This saw is rock solid, passes the nickel test, and is silky smooth with my Delta and Freud blades.

However once the saw spun up, the blade made this horrendous noise. Not quite screeching, not quite whirring. Something in between. I had to put ear plugs in with the blade just spinning!

I tried to cut a pine 2x4. Crosscut was ok. Not good, just ok. A rip cut left gouges like the blade was flexing from side to side. I then ripped a scrap of purpleheart and it burned the heck out of the wood. Purpleheart burns easily, but this blade filled my garage with smoke!

This blade is banned from my saw. Maybe I'll make a clock out of it or something.
