Irwin Lockhead Adjustable Wood Bit, with a boring range of 7/8 to 3 inches and an overall length of 6-1/2 inches in the one-piece drop forged construction bit, for general purpose boring in all types of wood where a variety of larger size holes are required. Bit features a wedge type blade with a lock and slow-feed screw point and the special precision ground shank has three equally spaced flats for use in drill presses having three jaws. Adjustable bit is excellent for installing locks, roughing holes for pipe, school shop projects, and similar work. Irwin tools are made of only the finest materials, manufactured to exacting tolerances.

The good points of the Irwin Lockhead Adjustable Wood Bit is that it gives you the ability to drill holes to your specific requirements.
The bad point is not really bad but the bit is a little difficult to adjust to get an exact hole size. There is a gague on the bit but it is only a rough measurement for the diameter that you need. To get an exact size you need to drill a hole and measure the diameter and adjust the bit until you get the size needed. This bit is not balanced because of the offset to the adjustible cutter so it needs to be used in a drill press at slow speed.

Don't be fooled by the poorly worded description, this bit does NOT include the attachment for drilling holes between 3" and 5" in Diameter. It only works from 7/8" to 3". Since I need a 4.75" hole it doesn't really do me any good!

The set screw that must be loosened in order to adjust the cutting width was in so tight that I could not loosen it. I ended up having to take it to the local hardware store where they had to use a wrench to undo it. Also, the arm that moves back and forth to set the hole width does not slide smoothly, making it very difficult to adjust precisely.
