5.0 out of 5 stars cool tool
I like these much better than the spring clamps we all use. It exerts more pressure with an easier release than a spring clamp of similar size. Just squeeze to lock it and it stays put. I used a couple the other day to hold a straight edge for routing dado's. I cut 3/4 x 1/2 deep runs with no slippage from the clamps. When I was done with each one I just squeezed the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Quick-Grip Review
These clamps are my least favorite clamps in my shop. The springs fall out of the handle grip often and need to be replaced (if you can find the darn things). For quick applications they are okay at best. For serious woodworking I recommend paying a few dollars more and get better clamps for your project.

I bought mine to hold shop-made jigs in place while routing and sawing. They are very convenient to use. The jaw has a maximum opening of about 2", but to get a really tight grip, about an 1 1/2" thick or less works best. I always keep the black release lever on the top handle if I can. Two of these will hold a jig very tightly. The rubber pads will not mar your workpiece or slip.

I have modified a few of my jigs by gluing 400 grit sandpaper to the bottom of the jig with spray-on contact cement so they grip the workpiece better. One finger will release even the tightest grip by pulling up in the black release lever. They are so much easier to use than "C" clamps or even larger Vise Grip bar clamps, which both have to be operated from below the table to assure a lower profile in your work area.

These are tough little clamps that you will find new uses for whenever you're in the shop. Get several - you don't want to end up "one clamp short of a set-up."

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CLAMPS, March 10, 2001

The best way to describe this clamps is...It's like a "c clamp you dont have to thread up and down. Just a quick squeeze and poof, your locked down. The release can be done with one finger, how simple is that?A spring clamp of this size would take some real brawn to line up and clamp. Not this one people, it's as easy as squeezing toothpaste from a tube.It wont rust or leave those c clamp dimples we all hate. It' plenty big, wont mar your work and the jaw ends pivot for a good fit.Way to go American Tool, this ones a hit.I cant wait to see whats next. Now get out there and clamp away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent in some applications., February 16, 2004

As noted in some of the other reviews, these clamps do not apply that much pressure. As such, they do not work well (or at all)for some applications. When I used them to secure pieces to a workbench for chiseling, they would lose their grip after a limited number of strokes.

That said, these clamps work very well in other situations. I find that these are the best clamps for securing plywood to sawhorses when cutting with a jig or circular saw. They can be applied and removed within seconds, speeding up the work flow immensely. These clamps would be worth purchasing for that application alone.

This clamp is OK for the price but I have much better clamps. It is useful for one-handed operations but does not always clamp as tightly as other types.

1.0 out of 5 stars too little clamping pressure, September 16, 2002
This review is from: Quick-Grip 59200CD 2-Inch Handi-Clamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
I thought these would replace my spring clamps, which are sometimes too strong for small jobs. However, the Handi-Clamps don't provide enough clamping pressure. I returned mine. I would recommend the Quick-Grip bar clamps, they are just as quick to use and can provide a large amount of clamping pressure. I use them on almost every project.

3.0 out of 5 stars a good clamp with limitations, January 30, 2010

I found this unit to be a clamp with limited specific usefulness. It works well with veneers and held small pieces of wood to be worked. There was too little clamping force to keep large pieces of wood from shifting. It does not have the strength of hold that one finds with a metal c-clamp. To fit my need, I purchased an additional two deep metal c-clamps.

4.0 out of 5 stars They don't fetch coffee either..., December 26, 2006
This review is from: Quick-Grip 59200CD 2-Inch Handi-Clamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have a couple of these clamps as well as the quick grip bar clamps and C clamps and spring clamps. They all have their perfect uses. These handi clamps are great for what I use them for, which is to hold materials together. I have used it to keep cabinet faces tight while installing screws (not to support the weight), for jigs that will not suffer a great deal of lateral pressure, holding drawer box faces flush while installing runners...etc.

For these things they are good. They are not good for all the things you would imagine a quick, compact, light duty clamp would not be good for. Get the right tool for the job and you will not have as many disappointments.

They won't replace your bar clamps, and they shouldn't be your first clamps, but they have earned their place in my line-up.

I have had two of these clamps for a few years now. They are as easy and convienient to use as the positive reviews describe, yet I hardly ever use them. They simply won't retain enough clamping pressure for most uses. As soon as I release the handles, about 80%-90% of the pressure disappears. Since basic spring clamps are just as easy to use, hold better and are much less expensive, I see no reason to buy this clamp. If I lost mine, I don't think I would ever miss them.
