4.0 out of 5 stars Good light application clamp...
These are good light application clamp. I recieved them from my son's as a gift. I use them a lot for holding trim pieces on jewelry boxes while I line them up for glueing. Spring clamps put too much pressure on the pieces and they tend to slide around before the glue dries. The long reach makes them ideal for this application. Havn't had any of them break or lose the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Quick maybe ---- Grip not!!
These clamps are very quick to apply and release but due to the lack of mechanical advantage, the distance from the pivot to the clamps is virtually the same as the distance from the pivot to the end of the handles, you cannot apply much more than hand pressure to the work. These may work fine for clamping the work while glue sets up or for stabilizing a router guide or...

These clamps are very quick to apply and release but due to the lack of mechanical advantage, the distance from the pivot to the clamps is virtually the same as the distance from the pivot to the end of the handles, you cannot apply much more than hand pressure to the work. These may work fine for clamping the work while glue sets up or for stabilizing a router guide or some other task that does not require a lot of pressure but cannot compare to C-clamps or Vice grips in holding power. I bought 3 of these things for use in an industrial environment to clamp stops in a vertical boring machine but they would slip at the slightest impact, no matter how hard I tried to clamp them. As I pointed out, the problem seems to be the lack of mechanical advantage in clamping. The design simply will not allow you to hold any item tighter than you can hold it with your hand. In applications where you need another hand to hold something, they are probably just fine, and just that, another hand.

Spring clamps put too much pressure on the pieces and they tend to slide around before the glue dries. The long reach makes them ideal for this application. Havn't had any of them break or lose the springs as noted in other reviews. They are a very handy size and easy to use with one hand. Recommend them as a light clamp for special applications.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too weak, flexible, and fussy!, November 3, 2003

I picked up a couple of these on a whim while running errands at the Borg. Seemed like a handy and simple idea. I have tried to use them quite a few times but have yet to find anything at which they excel. They actually clamp with less pressure than your hand can exert. The ratchet slips often, especially when you happen to pick up the clamp with it on the top handle. The rotating pads are more of a hassle than an advantage. They often rotate out of position, making it more of a 3 hand clamp than a 1 hand clamp, and also make the clamps essentially unusable on round objects.

Buy large spring clamps instead. They cost less, clamp harder, and work more reliably.

I am a real fan of Quik Grip clamps, so this worthless product really took me by surprise. They need to pull it off the market.

1.0 out of 5 stars not good, March 29, 2003

although I cannot speak to the mechanical disadvantages of these clamps (humor), I can say that I simply don't like them. When I have tried to use them they just slip right off. They are not tight, no matter how much pressure I put on them. There are springs used to help hold the jaws closed, and those have fallen out of both clamps. Don't bother with these.

5.0 out of 5 stars These work great for my purposes, August 23, 2011

I'm not sure what people are trying to use these for in all of the negative reviews but I'm surprised at the lack of love for these things. I haven't used these for extreme scenarios like hooking train cars together, but when I use them around the house there is nothing else that can take their place.

Whether it is holding wood together while the glue is drying, holding bags of stuff up on rafters, etc. The benefit of these is the ease of use and portability. You only need one hand to get it open and closed. They are lightweight so they are easy to carry around. I used to use spring clamps for some work, but on lightweight woods, they would leave indents from the grip. The positive side of these clamps is that you can control how much pressure to apply.

I added two of these to my clamp collection and these get used from time to time. These lightweight/light-duty clamps can get into spots that other clamps can't reach. The clamping area is a small rectangle. The clamping pressure can be varied on how tight you squeeze the handles. Handling is easy, fast clamp, quick release, and glue won't stick to it. Decent brand name, good value. I have to give it a 5-star for the comfortable grip and feel.

Good for holding a part to a table when not much torque is required. Faster to install and release than a C clamp.

My husband loves this. It grips very well and is easy to use. It requires two hands to open it.
