4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
I have both these and the Lisle sets. I never use the Lisle set anymore since these are so versitile. As a machinist and Millwright, these are the perfect size to carry around in my kit. What a great idea.

These work ok, and just ok. They do hold your taps and extractors, but don't hold them tight. You'd think you could just tighten them to hold tighter but no.

Lisle tap sockets work a little better, but some inbetween sizes get stuck. Either work better than a standard T handle, which you sometimes can't use at all due to obstructions. With the sockets,...

I have both these and the Lisle sets. I never use the Lisle set anymore since these are so versitile. As a machinist and Millwright, these are the perfect size to carry around in my kit. What a great idea.

The quality is decent for an import. I haven't had the chrome flake off mine, but I did lose one of the jaws on the larger socket. They cannot be replaced individually, so now I always spin the jaws completely closed before tossing these back in my toolbox.

Holding power is ok. I use a ratchet (of course) and crank them down pretty good when I use them. But they do loosen up. Still, for such a handy tool it's not a deal breaker. I would like to have a larger size socket as well, but doing up to 1/2" taps is probably what most people would use them for. Nobody else makes these except Matco, which looks exactly like these Irwin units without any logos and a higher price. But if another manufacturer makes a set of these with higher quality I will certainly buy them.

In summary, for the kind of work I do it's a very handy tool that I will always have in my toolbox.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very cheaply made, September 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Irwin Adjustable Tap Socket 2 Piece Kit (3095001) (Misc.)
I have used this tap socket adapter a couple of times and the chrome plating started peeling off. Nothing I hate more than a tool that requires me to use tweezers to pull out metal splinters out of my fingers after I have used it. I put this on a wire wheel to knock off all of the cheap plating so that this does not happen again. I thought Irwin produced better quality items than this.
