Most tools of this type are overrated, and I was sceptical when I saw this one advertised. However, I ran into a situation at work where I had to remove some badly rusted and rounded over bolts from the exhaust manifold of a piece of earthmoving machinery, and none of the standard methods worked. After trying for 3 hours, I finally bought a set of Bolt Grips. They really worked. I had all 3 bolts out in less than 5 minutes. I am sold on these things.

i was under my truck for 3 hours with pb blaster and vice grips trying to get off rusted, rounded off axle bolts. bought a set of these and i was done in 15 minutes. a MUST HAVE for any home mechanic with an older car.

Comparing this to the bolt out set that I purchased from ACE hardware, this set was wonderful. The ACE hardware set did nothing to my stuck bolts. The irwin set helped me remove the bolt almost as if there was nothing wrong with it.

I rounded of a Bolt on my motorbikes filter housing, and when i say rounded i mean, no flats whatsoever (real nasty) So much so the garage said it may have to break a section on the engine to get the bolt out. I got my hands on these babys as a last hope of saving my £££, within 2 min's the bolt was off. these things are truly worth their weight in gold. A truely excellent product that WILL do what it says.

Wow, this set has come in handy! My fiance and I have been doing quite a few home repairs lately, and noticed many rounded and damaged nuts and bolts around the house that regular wrenches were really inefficient with. I got this set in hopes that it would help, and it has! It comes with 5 different sizes of bolt grips and works with all of my fairly standard wrenches. I highly recommend this product - you will not be unsatisfied!

worked great to start with but you can see the edges that grip wearing down , do not know how long they will be good for

In the process of changing the rear rotors of an '05 Acura TSX, the lower caliper bracket bolt wouldn't come off.
I tried everything- DW 40, PB Blaster, ratchet, box wrench, flared box wrench, 3 sets of vise grips,hammer and cold chisel, to no avail.

The force required to free the bolt was greater than what the head of the bolt could take before it rounded over.

I even spent about an hour filing the bolt down, by hand, to get a better shape to grip. That didn't work either.

I happened to see the Irwin Bolt-Grip set at an auto store recently and checked the reviews here on Amazon.
The reviews are pretty good, so I figured I'd give it one more shot before I broke down and spent the money for a mechanic.

Well, I gave the bolt-grip a few taps with a rubber mallet, inserted the 3/8 ratchet, gave it a pull and Voila! THE SOB finally gave way and stubbornly made it's way out.

It's rare that a tool (heck, any product) lives up to it's promises.

This one does.

Best $20 I've spent in quite a while.

I had a severely rounded bolt on my cars oil pan drain. I tried vice grips but they kept slipping. I ordered the Bolt-Grip Extractor set to see if it would work. Upon receipt, I selected the appropriate size, tapped it onto the bolt, placed a socket wrench drive on it, and it easily removed the completely rounded off bolt. This is a great product to have when all else fails. I highly recommend it.

I do my own work on an old car that spent far too many years in a snowy climate...so every job involves lots of rusted bolts. I've been putting off buying these for a while now...the price always just seemed a little too high for 5 sockets. Instead, I would struggle for hours to devise a way to remove stripped/rounded bolts. Finally, I met a bolt I couldn't get out and broke down and purchased these bolt-grip sockets. It literally took no more than 15 seconds to remove a rounded bolt. I can't recommend these enough...one of the best tool purchases I've ever made. Buy these...you won't regret it.

Minor gripes you may or may not care about:
1) the case design is pretty terrible. The sockets just sit loosely in these little holes, and every time I open the case, all 5 sockets fall out. You have to be extra careful to open it slowly on a level surface...otherwise you'll be picking them up off the ground or fishing them out from under the hood of your car. On the plus side with the case, there are spots for the 5 sockets that come in the expansion kit.

2) the socket labeled for dual use with 3/8" and 10mm bolts turned out to be a little too small for the 10mm bolt that was stuck...this socket would probably be much better as a 3/8" only socket. However, I was able to use the 11mm socket to get my bolt off. If money were no issue, I would buy the expansion set so I could get the dedicated 10mm socket.

First off buy the expansion set #394002 it fits in the case with #394001 making it a 10 pc set. I have used these to remove nuts, bolts, screws and studs if it fits in the splines it will grab it and turn it. They do what they are suppose to, the only time I had an issue with one was on a painted bolt but a light tap with a hammer and it bit right in, if you need this type of tool buy it.
