Book Description

0781791537 978-0781791533 August 6, 2007 Sixth

Thoroughly updated for its Sixth Edition, this classic reference remains an unsurpassed source of definitive, practical guidance on adult patient care in the ICU. It provides encyclopedic, multidisciplinary coverage of both medical and surgical intensive care and includes a "how-to" atlas of procedures and a new section on noninvasive monitoring.

Each Sixth Edition chapter, for the first time, identifies Advances in Management based on randomized controlled clinical trials. The cardiology section has been completely rewritten to reflect advances in management of acute coronary syndromes. Also included are extensive updates on management of COPD, diabetes, oncologic emergencies, and overdoses and poisonings.

A companion Website will provide instant access to the complete and fully searchable online text.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, November 4, 2007

This review is from: Irwin and Rippe's Intensive Care Medicine 6e (Intensive Care Medicine (Irwin & Rippe's)) (Hardcover)
This is a very large compendium on critical care medicine. I had wished that it included a CD containing the text, but instead there is a login to the site which has all this and more. The information given is useful and very extensive. At times it appears a little too cookbooky for me, but I suppose that this is unavoidable unless they were to create an encyclopedic work. Sometimes, cookbook answers are what you are looking for. I found it useful in my preparation for recertification in critical care. I am glad I will not have to lug it around, though, and can use the website.

4.0 out of 5 stars Standard Reference, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Irwin and Rippe's Intensive Care Medicine 6e (Intensive Care Medicine (Irwin & Rippe's)) (Hardcover)
One of the best and comprehensive works on all aspects of critical care. Just one suggestion to publishers. Why not have a totally paperless edition, online or otherwise. Easier to search, doesn't weigh 6kg and today's way of doing things.
