For some reason it's hard to find sets like these, but when you're switching between predrilling pilot holes and then screwing in screws, the ability to quick release the drill bit and philips bit is a must unless you have 2 cordless drills setup. Comes with a nice quick release chuck and standard drill bit sizes, I just wish they made larger sets with more sizes. I've had good luck with Irwin products.

I've owned and used an excellent set of Irwin drill bits for a few years, and love how well they work. However, the "loosen the chuck, pull out one bit, tighten the chuck on a new bit" routine gets old when you're doing a lot of drilling and driving, and the smaller bits can be tough to get seated properly in my drill because of the tiny diameter of the shank.

I've had my eye on a few different hex shank drill bit sets, and this one in particular seemed to be simple and well built (two traits I like in my tools).

The bits are well made and precise, and the quick change chuck works pretty well with these bits, as well as standard magnetic screw bits from a separate kit. I can change bits with one hand, but it's slightly quicker to use two hands. It beats the loosen/tighten rigmarole, hands down! To release a bit, just pull down on the sleeve, and the bit pops up, ready to be removed (it doesn't fall out, either, which is nice). Push in the new bit until it locks into place, and you're set to drill again!

The included case is nice, too, since I hate losing a bit or trying to read the tiny text on the bit to figure out the size; I find that if I have a case like this, where every bit has a slot, I'm much less likely to have a bit go missing during cleanup, because I immediately notice an empty slot when closing the case.

The only downside to using the quick-change connector is that the bits don't seem to spin perfectly centered/balanced when in the connector, due to an ever-so-slightly loose connection. It doesn't cause much of a problem in normal use, but I like having my drill bits spin perfectly straight, with no wobble.

After breaking and bending several Kobalt bits from a similar set, I purchased this one. I drilled a few holes, pushed too hard once and it didn't break or bend. The adapter is also hex shank sized - so you can use it in a driver drill as well - not like the Kobalt one that is too big. The bits are easy to pull out and put back, and the case is easy to open and close.

Normally Irwin stuff is top quality, unfortunately, not so in this case, I had purchased 2 of these, had to return them. They suffer from excessive run-out or wobble, can't locate the drill point in the punch mark. It will drill a hole, but once in the hole the work will shake viciously because of the wobble. This same problem is common to other manufactures, unfortunately. The only good set I have found is made by DeWalt, which is short and stubby and made one piece. All the hex shank bits with the crimped on ends seem to have this problem, although any of the one piece designs are good. hope this helps, Tucker Birk.

I got this set because I got tired of constantly switching between the smaller drill bits and the 1/4" hex screw bits. Drill, screw, drill, screw, back and forth it got irritating, but a lot of times I didn't want to drill all the holes at once.

So far the bits have been holding up well and none of them have broken off at the hex base like some people have complained about with some other kits. The bonus is the magnetic quick change bit is nicer than the one I had from my Dewalt kit and its got its own slot to keep it secure as well.

Highly recommended.

I work in the automotive field so everything I drill into is medal. These drills bit are still sharp and I have had them for 7 months. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a hex shank drill bit.

The bits appear to be of good quality compared to some others I have used. I like the inclusion of two 1/8" bits as I tend to use these more often. I liked the idea of having the case, but was surprised at how thick it is.. we're talking about 1-3/4" thick. The quick-change chuck is of marginal quality and requires two hands for inserting a bit. I also have the Bosch chuck which operates with more precision and is easy to load with one hand. Overall, I think it's a good value for everything included.
