GrooveLock pliers are twice as fast as traditional groove joint pliers, offering precise jaw positioning with twice the groove positions as competing pliers. More groove positions also provide optimum hand location for a better grip on the work piece. They have an all-purpose jaw that can grip flat, round, hex, and square surfaces. The GrooveLock's ratcheting action enables the pliers to be adjusted from the open position up to the work piece by pushing the handle up. Plus the anti-pinch handles protect your palms in case the tool slips from the work piece. This set includes 8-, 10-, and 12-inch models of GrooveLock pliers.

I've over the years had a variety of pliers and many have been misplaced. This is probably the nicest set I've owned and the fact that everyone of them has a place in the case hopefully means I won't lose them in the near future.

The groove lock pliers in particular can be adjusted at the touch of a button, but hold their position solidly when the button is released. This will make it easier than the ones in the past where they always seemed to slip and not able to hold their size easily. In addition the case is nicely made, having deep pockets and the elastic loops are a great idea for keeping everything in place. I look forward to getting years of use out of this set.

These tools get the job done. Compared to other similar tools (Channel Lock and Husky) they have more metal. They also have larger plastic grips.
My main gripe is the big grips. They feel childish with the goofy plastic handles. The tools have a sturdy bulk to them that tries to overcome the chintzy feel the plastic imbues. It's still hard, however to work with them given the size of the handles. Given the choice of these or a set of Channel Locks, I'd choose the channel locks, which have a more balanced feel, and less excess bulk.

The pouch is very nice, and allows you to keep them all rolled up together. This would be great for a trunk or truck box, but isn't as practical if you have a tool chest, box, or bucket where the roll just takes up excess space.

All things considered, these are nice tools that get the job done. For the money, they're not the best, but the set has most of what you need to keep in the car, around the house, or at the office in order to deal with most minor fixes. I wouldn't recommend to a tradesman using them all day long though.

Irwin is definitely one of my favorite brands for high quality and rock solid tools. Their engineers and design team understand that making great looking tools is as important as the functionality of those tools. However, it truly pains me that I cannot give this set a solid 5 star rating.

The crescent wrench is too thick at the jaw for my liking. Many times crescent wrenches are used in tight spaces (under sink, under the hood, in an access panel, crawl space, list goes on - you get the idea) - and having a broad profile at the jaw can be a hindrance. Now, that being said, having extra material will help keep the jaws from sliding off the users desired size. Also, when utilizing for something on a vice it will excel where a regular crescent wrench won't. Just don' expect it to replace the many crescents you've already got - that's all I'm saying.

The pliers are awesome - in fact I was pleasantly surprised at their girth. In this case I approve the extra material at the jaw - too many times I dinked around with a frail stanley and slipped my knuckles into something. Not happening with these.

The linesman and dykes are a nice addition, but I've already got an electricians set and would have liked to see two sized vise-grips take their place. Just a good excuse for me to pick this up: Irwin Tools 757KBT 7 Piece Fast Release Locking Pliers Set.

Needle nose are great - no complaints.

The groove-lock pliers are where I have an issue. The jaws don't open nearly wide enough and the curvature of the jaws are tailored for nuts and bolts. The jaw lengths are about 1/2" too short and the quick release mechanism needs two handed operation. Channel-locks are better suited for automotive work than these - but for home repair I'll stick with Irwin and the groove-locks.

I'd be interested in what others have to say in response since I haven't seen these issues raised in the comments I have read.
